# Virals: Alex Teixeira opens up on failed Liverpool transfer

Brazilian midfielder [Alex Teixeira](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2017/12/18/liverpool-alerted-teixeira-situation/) has opened up on a failed transfer to [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/09/10/virals-liverpool-contemplate-january-move-for-karim-adeyemi/) over five years ago.

Now 31-years-old, the Reds [were heavily linked](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/35371700) with the ace whilst still a Shakhtar Donetsk player.

Despite strong [reports](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/jan/22/liverpool-bid-shakhtar-donetsk-striker-alex-teixeira) suggesting the Anfield club were willing to meet the Ukrainian club’s demands, Teixeira ultimately headed to China to play for Jiangsu Suning.

Speaking to [A Spor](https://www.aspor.com.tr/besiktas/2021/09/09/son-dakika-besiktasin-yildiz-futbolculari-josef-de-souza-ve-alex-teixeira-a-spora-ozel-aciklamalarda-bulundu), as cited by [Anfield Edition](https://twitter.com/AnfieldEdition/status/1436277637551378457) on Twitter, in the wake of a [return](https://www.transfermarketweb.com/transfers/official-besiktas-sign-brazilian-alex-teixeira-from-jiangsu-fc-217554) to Europe with Besiktas, the Brazilian has revealed by the Merseyside switch failed to materialise.

The move to China brought about many raised eyebrows given the calibre of interest, something the [ex-Brazil youth ace](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alex-teixeira/nationalmannschaft/spieler/66515/verein_id/3439) is all too aware of.

> When I left Shakhtar it was advertised as if I had chosen the money over the Premier League. The Premier League is the best league in the world. Unfortunately, the negotiations with Liverpool had come to a dead-end and Liverpool gave up. While I was disappointed with this, the good offer came from China. The offer from China was one I couldn’t refuse. I made a completely rational decision.

Since the failed Liverpool move, Teixeira scored [73 times and provided 43 assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alex-teixeira/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/66515) during a five-year spell in China.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Another case of what might’ve been.

The attacking midfielder joins an illustrious list of Liverpool nearly men, alongside Nabil Fekir, [Yevhen Konoplyanka](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/feb/01/liverpool-ukraine-yevhen-konoplyanka-dnipro-16m) and Mario Gotze.

Having said that, the ensuing [five years have been rather successful](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/history/honours) at Anfield, something Teixeira may well have enhanced of course, but may also have harmed.
