# Virals: Alisson Becker breaks records with goal of the season award

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/02/virals-ibrahima-konate-compilation-appears-on-twitter/) goalkeeper [Alisson Becker](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/05/17/thiago-alisson-lewandowski/) has made history after his headed injury-time winner against West Brom outfit was voted Liverpool’s goal of the season for the 2020/21 campaign.

Beating off competition almost exclusively from Mohamed Salah – the Brazilian number one is the first ‘keeper to be given the award after [clinching all three points](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDa5A20jDGs) in a pivotal away clash with Sam Allardyce’s side.

Encouraged by John Achterberg to join his teammates for the Reds’ final corner of the game at the Hawthorns with the score at 1-1, the 28-year-old [leapt with the freedom of the penalty area](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/57044633) before guiding a remarkable header beyond his helpless opposite number.

The stoppers effort was met with jubilation and unsurprisingly Kopites voted the header as their goal of the season, as reported by the [club’s official website](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/435807-alisson-becker-wins-liverpool-goal-of-the-season-for-2020-21) and cited, along with the other contenders, on the [official Twitter](https://twitter.com/LFC/status/1399999224163438597) account.

Not only did the [45-cap Brazil star](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alisson/nationalmannschaft/spieler/105470/verein_id/3439) become the first goalkeeper to score for the Anfield club – but also the moment turned the entire tide of Liverpool’s season and helped secure a third-place Premier League finish.

Remarkably, six of the top 10 goals belong to Salah – with youngster Mateusz Musialowski, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Liverpool [women star Rinsola Babajide](https://theathletic.com/2374486/2021/02/09/liverpool-womens-manager-search-rinsola-babajide-column/) making up the list.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Well, it just had to be.

Given all the difficulties suffered during the 2020/21 season – by the Brazilian more than most given the [personal tragedy](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9306625/Alisson-Beckers-father-laid-rest-small-private-ceremony-Brazilians-home-city.html) – to win a game in that fashion was a truly remarkable moment.

After what has been a wholly [forgettable campaign](https://www.football365.com/news/the-forgotten-premier-league-loanee-xi) for many reasons, Alisson’s header will be a moment that lives long in the memory.
