# Virals: AS Monaco starlet Aurelien Tchouameni a ‘candidate’ for Liverpool

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2022/01/07/virals-liverpool-presented-an-offer-to-real-madrid-forward-marco-asensio/) are reportedly ‘exploring options’ to strengthen the midfield department ahead of next summer.

One of the leading contenders is believed to be AS Monaco youngster [Aurelien Tchouameni](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/11/15/virals-liverpool-keen-on-as-monaco-ace-aurelien-tchouameni/).

The 21-year-old is amongst the [hottest properties in Europe](https://www.asmonaco.com/en/aurelien-tchouameni-ligue-1-young-player/) and looks almost certain to move on at the end of the current campaign.

Having allowed [Gini Wijnaldum to leave the club](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/why-gini-wijnaldum-leaving-liverpool-20781054) as a free agent at the start of the season, the Reds have been left somewhat short of options at times.

According to a report from journalist David Ornstein for [The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/3054326/2022/01/07/ornsteins-transfer-mailbag-citys-haaland-move-arsenal-and-vlahovic-cantwell-can-go/), as cited by [https://twitter.com/AnfieldEffect](https://twitter.com/AnfieldEffect)[𝘼𝙣𝙛𝙞𝙚𝙡𝙙 𝙀𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙘𝙩](https://twitter.com/AnfieldEffect) on Twitter, the Anfield club are eyeing up targets.

> Liverpool are also thought to be exploring options to strengthen in central midfield. One of the candidates is Monaco’s Aurelien Tchouameni, although among those also keen on the 21-year-old France international are Manchester United and therefore if Liverpool choose to take their interest further, the battle for his services is likely to be intense.

Previously a report from Spanish newspaper [*Marca*](https://www.marca.com/futbol/real-madrid/2021/10/12/61656561268e3ecf298b4626.html/?tag=exp098-20) has claimed Monaco will demand £50.1million for the [seven-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aurelien-tchouameni/nationalmannschaft/spieler/413112/verein_id/3377) France starlet.

This season Tchouameni – hailed as [‘extraordinary’](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9975843/Paul-Pogba-heaps-praise-extraordinary-Manchester-United-target-Aurelien-Tchouameni.html) by Paul Pogba – has earned an impressive [7.22 average Sofascore rating](https://www.sofascore.com/player/aurelien-tchouameni/859025) from 18 Ligue 1 outings.

Valued at £36million and under contract in France until 2024 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aurelien-tchouameni/marktwertverlauf/spieler/413112)), signing the Bordeaux academy graduate for the mooted £50.1million fee would be a bargain price.

Predominantly a [defensive-minded](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aurelien-tchouameni/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/413112) midfielder, Tchouameni would provide sufficient cover for Fabinho as well as being able to play in a more conventional role.

Boasting a [range of impressive attributes](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/353423/Show/Aur%C3%A9lien-Tchouam%C3%A9ni), the young Frenchman has all the potential to be a top performer at the elite level for many years to come and Liverpool should be at the front of the queue.
