# Virals: Bayer Leverkusen eye Liverpool outcast Sheyi Ojo this summer

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/07/21/virals-liverpool-favourites-to-sign-lyon-star-houssem-aouar/) winger [Sheyi Ojo](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/12/03/sheyi-ojo-continues-impressive-form-at-cardiff-after-pair-of-assists/) is believed to be a target for German Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen this summer.

This comes as cross park rivals Everton [near the completion of a deal](https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/leicester-city-demarai-gray-everton-5673992) for Leverkusen wideman Demarai Gray just months after joining.

According to a report from [All Nigeria Soccer](https://www.allnigeriasoccer.com/read_news.php?nid=40510), as cited by [megasportsarena](https://twitter.com/megasportsarena) on Twitter, Ojo could be the man chosen to replace Gray at the Bay Arena.

The report claims that Leverkusen have ‘opened a line of communication’ for the 24-year-old [England youth international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sheyi-ojo/nationalmannschaft/spieler/236510/verein_id/9565) billed as their ‘primary target’.

Since arriving at Anfield in 2011 as a teenager from MK Dons, Ojo has been [sent out on loan six times](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sheyi-ojo/transfers/spieler/236510), spending last season with Cardiff City [scoring five and adding another seven assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sheyi-ojo/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/236510) in 41 Championship outings.

Overall the London-born ace has made [13 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sheyi-ojo/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/236510/verein/31) for the Reds’ first team including eight Premier League runouts during the 2016/16 campaign.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Valued at £2.7million and under contract at Anfield until 2023 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sheyi-ojo/marktwertverlauf/spieler/236510)), any sale is unlikely to provide an excessive sum to the Liverpool coffers.

However, selling the likes of Ojo looks to be a [crucial part of this summer’s transfer operation](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/liverpool-can-raise-80m-selling-20697081) and the Reds should take Leverkusen’s reported interest seriously.

Capable of [playing on either wing](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sheyi-ojo/leistungsdaten/spieler/236510), there is no doubt therein lies a player with ability, unfortunately, he just happens to occupy the same space as Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and the very department Jurgen Klopp [wants to bolster](https://www.football365.com/news/transfer-gossip-liverpool-linked-wingers-coman-malen) in the transfer window.

In danger of becoming an [eternal loanee](https://www.cardiffcityfc.co.uk/news/loan-sheyi-ojo-joins-joins-liverpool) simply drifting from club to club, a permanent departure would surely be best for all parties this summer.
