# Virals: Bayer Leverkusen interested in Liverpool hero Nat Phillips

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/07/21/virals-james-pearce-expects-liverpool-to-be-active-in-the-window/) defender [Nat Phillips](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/07/19/virals-brighton-poised-to-offer-15m-for-liverpool-ace-nat-phillips/) is attracting plenty of potential suitors this summer following a string of end of season heroics.

The 24-year-old was the unlikely catalyst for a [Premier League revival](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/435107-match-report-crystal-palace-premier-league#:~:text=Liverpool%20finished%20third%20in%20the,of%2010%2C000%20fans%20at%20Anfield.) at Anfield last season at the heart of a decimated defence.

Despite leaving an ever-lasting impact on Jurgen Klopp’s side, as Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip [return to fitness](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/van-dijk-gomez-matip-return-liverpool-squad-pre-season-camp/12m7vh7ikry0e1lvh2nr1quv0s), there remains doubt over the ace’s future on Merseyside.

Already a reported target for Brighton and Burnley, the latest report from [Sky Sports News (15:33pm)](https://www.skysports.com/transfer-centre), as cited by [LFC Transfer Room](https://twitter.com/LFCTransferRoom/status/1417915897344319489) on Twitter has added additional admirers.

The report claims that the [Bundesliga](https://www.bundesliga.com/en/bundesliga/table) side have ‘sounded out’ the no-nonsense centre-back and have been in contact with representatives to register an interest.

Phillips has previous experience in Germany having spent a successful [season-long loan spell](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/406225-nat-phillips-interview-stuttgart-loan-unpredictability-and-future-plans) earning promotion with VfB Stuttgart.

Last season the man [hailed](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/434196-nat-phillips-and-rhys-williams-have-created-proper-careers-now) as ‘immense’ by Klopp earned an average [Sofascore rating of 7.19](https://www.sofascore.com/player/nathaniel-phillips/920393) across 17 Premier League outings.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Valued at £7.2million and under contract until 2023 at Anfield ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nathaniel-phillips/marktwertverlauf/spieler/371814)), the Reds have [reportedly](https://theathletic.com/news/liverpool-transfer-nat-phillips-latest/bOqVwpgFllsN) placed a £15million price tag on the defender.

The wealth of interest should help Liverpool reach that price or perhaps beyond should a bidding war ensue for the [‘Bolton Baresi’](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/the-bolton-baresi-how-nat-phillips-became-liverpools-latest-cult-/34baotio0cwl1owxa0vvx8cmo).

Although last season’ [performances more than warrant a place](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nathaniel-phillips/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/371814) in Klopp’s plans moving forwards, Phillips’ stock has never been higher having proven to be ready for regular first-team action – something that he is unlikely to find given the level of competition.

Unfortunately whilst the romantic in most Kopites would love to keep their newfound hero at the club, a boost of £15million in the [current market](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/liverpool-sell-11-players-millions-20264292) would be difficult to turn down.
