# Virals: Boost for Liverpool in Donyell Malen pursuit

German Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund have reportedly dropped out of the race to sign [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/21/after-90-jurgen-klopp-enjoys-atp-mallorca-alongside-former-target/) target, [Donyell Malen](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/18/virals-paul-gorst-admits-donyell-malen-presents-a-good-fit-for-liverpool/).

The Reds are believed to be looking at the 22-year-old as an [additional attacking option](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/team/first-team) this summer and could now see a clear path to the ace.

Instead, Dortmund are thought to be pursuing a deal for Malen’s [club teammate](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/psv-eindhoven/kader/verein/383) Noni Madueke.

This is according to journalist [Constantin Eckner](https://twitter.com/cc_eckner/status/1406539538999152640), claiming the Eredivisie club have set their sights elsewhere.

Currently away with The Netherlands at Euro 2020, Malen enjoyed a superb 2020/21 domestic campaign – scoring [27 goals and assisting 10 others](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/donyell-malen/leistungsdaten/spieler/326029) in 45 appearances.

A former Arsenal youngster, the [11-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/donyell-malen/nationalmannschaft/spieler/326029/verein_id/3379) Dutchman could [reportedly](https://theathletic.com/2638584/2021/06/09/the-radar-euro-2020-scouting-guide-in-depth-analysis-of-the-players-your-club-are-watching/?source=emp_shared_article) be available for around £26million during this transfer window.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Singing a forward must be a priority for Jurgen Klopp this summer, especially should [offers be forthcoming](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/liverpool-round-up-origi-shaqiri-23110954) for Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri.

Despite Mohamed Salah’s [continued success](https://www.premierleague.com/players/5178/Mohamed-Salah/overview), Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino fell below their usual levels last term.

Last summers arrival Diogo Jota [made up for the dip in form](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/jota-impact-liverpool-similar-salah-klopp-headache-aldridge/1ixdq112s4wu9z9kenig0uy58), but additional options are required.

Value at £27million and under contract in Holland until 2024 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/donyell-malen/marktwertverlauf/spieler/326029)), Malen at the mooted £26million would represent an excellent piece of business.
