# Virals: Brazilian Liverpool trio refuse Copa America participation

Brazilian [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/04/virals-paul-gorst-believes-takumi-minamino-will-leave-this-summer/) trio Alisson Becker, Fabinho and [Roberto Firmino](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/04/30/atletico-want-to-sign-firmino/) are reportedly refusing to take part in the upcoming Copa America along with the rest of the squad.

The move comes after the major South American tournament was [moved from Argentina](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/may/31/copa-america-in-doubt-with-13-days-to-kick-off-after-argentina-removed-as-host) to the nation at short notice this week.

Due to begin in just eight days time – when [Brazil are supposed to face Venezuela](https://www.skysports.com/copa-america-fixtures) – the tournament has been thrown into doubt with threats of a boycott from the host nation and other participants.

This comes from a report from [AS](https://as.com/futbol/2021/06/04/internacional/1622814678_029261.html?m1=cG9ydGFkYV9wb3J0YWRh&m2=QUNUVUFMSURBRA%3D%3D&m3=MTA%3D&m4=bm9ybWFs&m5=MjQ%3D), as cited by [The Anfield Talk](https://twitter.com/TheAnfieldTalk/status/1400775872416788484) on Twitter.

Having originally been [due to take place in Columbia](https://www.reuters.com/lifestyle/sports/soccer-colombia-request-copa-america-postponement-sports-minister-says-2021-05-20/), a third move was already an unprecedented step just days before the start date.

Any [boycott from leading nations](https://www.marca.com/en/football/copa-america/2021/06/04/60ba94fb268e3e20628b4628.html) would surely see the tournament unable to take place – something that could provide a welcome boost to the Reds’ contingent.

All three Liverpool representatives are [key elements of the Brazil](https://www.skysports.com/football/teams/brazil/squad) side that would no doubt have faced rigorous tests over the coming weeks, after what was an arduous 2020/21 domestic campaign.

Cancellation of the tournament would offer a much-needed rest ahead of a return to pre-season action in July.

After Trent Alexander-Arnold was [ruled out of the Euros](https://www.irishtimes.com/sport/soccer/international/england-s-trent-alexander-arnold-ruled-out-of-euro-2020-1.4583538#:~:text=Trent%20Alexander%2DArnold%20has%20been,prognosis%20immediately%20after%20the%20game.) this week with a thigh injury, Jurgen Klopp will have everything crossed that no more summer problems arise.

Five weeks off ahead of a return to the Kirkby Training Centre would be the ideal scenario for the German boss – albeit the players themselves would likely relish the opportunity to represent their nation in a major tournament.

One to keep an eye on as the situation in South America develops.
