# Virals: Chairman ‘optimistic’ Liverpool target Kingsley Coman will stay

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/07/05/virals-barcelona-willing-to-accept-20m-for-philippe-coutinho/) have been tentatively linked with Bayern Munich winger [Kingsley Coman](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/30/virals-christian-falk-confirms-minimum-e90million-kingsley-coman-fee/) this summer as the Frenchman was believed to be seeking a new challenge.

Reds’ manager Jurgen Klopp is on the lookout for stars to [bolster the attacking options](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11669/12315927/liverpool-the-summer-transfer-window-and-what-they-need-to-do) at Anfield and the 25-year-old was seemingly under consideration.

Despite conflicting [reports](https://www.football365.com/news/liverpool-short-bayern-valuation-opening-coman-transfer-bid), it was deemed the Bundesliga giants would demand an eye-watering [£83million](https://metro.co.uk/2021/06/30/bayern-munich-set-kingsley-coman-asking-price-amid-liverpool-man-utd-chelsea-links-14850783/?ito=newsnow-feed) in order to part with their man.

Now, Germany and Bayern legend turned club chairman Oliver Kahn has spoken about Coman’s future in Bavaria, as quoted by [Bulinews](https://bulinews.com/news/9077/kahn-optimistic-goretzka-and-coman-will-sign-new-bayern-deals) and cited by [Ronan Murphy](https://twitter.com/swearimnotpaul/status/1412026735743442948) on Twitter.

The [32-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.com/kingsley-coman/nationalmannschaft/spieler/243714/verein_id/3377) France ace only played a [bit-part role](https://www.sofascore.com/player/kingsley-coman/280441) as Didier Deschamps’s side were dumped out of Euro 2020 by Switzerland on penalties.

A serial title winner, Coman helped the Bavarian club to yet another top-flight success with [five goals and 12 assists](https://www.transfermarkt.com/kingsley-coman/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/243714/plus/0/saison/2020/wettbewerb/L1/verein/27) in 29 league outings.

Previously [hailed](https://www.bundesliga.com/en/news/Bundesliga/ten-things-about-kingsley-coman.jsp) as a great talent by Fernando Llorente, the Parisian also added [three goals and three assists](https://www.transfermarkt.com/kingsley-coman/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/243714/plus/0/saison/2020/wettbewerb/CL/verein/27) in just seven Champions League appearances last season.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Signing Coman at the mooted finances always seemed somewhat of a [pipedream](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/liverpool-sell-11-players-millions-20264292) this summer, especially without sanctioning a major departure.

Whilst adding a player of the Frenchman’s quality would no doubt enhance the squad, given the money and a [checkered injury record](https://www.transfermarkt.com/kingsley-coman/verletzungen/spieler/243714), it always seemed unlikely a move would materialise.

That said, previously there always remained hope the [£58.8million valued](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kingsley-coman/marktwertverlauf/spieler/243714#:~:text=%22Left%20Winger%22.-,With%20a%20market%20value%20of%20%C2%A358.50m%2C%20Kingsley%20Coman,all%20players%20of%20the%20Bundesliga.) star would demand a move and Liverpool would be amongst the suitors.
