# Virals: Christian Falk confirms Chelsea interest in Mohamed Salah

Watching [Mohamed Salah](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/05/07/jurgen-klopp-hails-outstanding-award-winning-mohamed-salah/) light up the Premier League in a [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/05/07/former-liverpool-defender-backs-liverpool-to-beat-southampton/) shirt – Chelsea could be forgiven for wondering what might’ve been.

The west Londoners allowed the Egyptian to leave back in 2015, heading to Italian [Serie A side AS Roma](https://www.chiesaditotti.com/2015/8/6/9110889/official-roma-signs-mohamed-salah-from-chelsea) as a 23 year old desperate to resurrect his career following a [difficult spell](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mohamed-salah/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/148455/verein/631) at Stamford Bridge.

Some [34 goals and 22 assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mohamed-salah/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/148455/verein/12) later, Michael Edwards and Jurgen Klopp went in search of the winger – signing Salah for £34million in 2018 ([BBC](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/40345138)).

Now Liverpool’s lynchpin having netted an astonishing [123 goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mohamed-salah/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/148455) in 198 appearances, [Bild journalist Christian Falk](https://twitter.com/cfbayern/status/1390657515487219714) has claimed Chelsea have placed the superstar on their summer shortlist.

> Twitter: TRUE ![✅](https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/13.0.1/svg/2705.svg) @MoSalah is on the shortlist of Tuchel and @ChelseaFC beside @ErlingHaaland and @RomeluLukaku9 https://t.co/1M95B6FwwU (@cfbayern)

Despite the [struggles within Klopp’s side](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) moreover this season, the man [hailed](https://tribuna.com/en/liverpoolfc/news/2020-03-06-wenger-waxes-lyrical-about-mo-salah-one-of-the-best-in-the-world/#text) as ‘sensational’ by former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, has remained a consistently [high performer](https://www.sofascore.com/player/mohamed-salah/159665).

Salah leads the clubs scoring charts with [20 Premier League goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mohamed-salah/leistungsdaten/spieler/148455) – just one behind Harry Kane in the [Golden Boot race](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/top-scorers).

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

If Liverpool harbour ambitions of challenging for top honours once again in 2021/22, they simply can’t be in the business of selling their [most important assets](https://www.transfermarkt.com.mt/liverpool-fc/kader/verein/31), especially to domestic rivals.

There has been plenty of speculation over Salah’s future on Merseyside, with La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona [touted](https://www.football-espana.net/2021/03/06/mohamed-salah-linked-with-moves-to-real-madrid-and-barcelona) as the most likely destinations.

However, this season has proved even a sale abroad would severely weaken the Reds – although Klopp would certainly [benefit from having the funds](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mohamed-salah/marktwertverlauf/spieler/148455) to spend in the transfer market.

Whilst a move to a Premier League club would hopefully be a non-starter, there is a debate whether the club would sanction a [Philippe Coutinho and Luis Suarez-Esque](https://www.thesportsman.com/articles/who-did-liverpool-buy-with-the-217m-they-got-from-selling-luis-suarez-and-coutinho-to-barcelona) transfer.
