# Virals: Conor Coady opens up on horror Anfield moment

Wolves defender and Liverpudlian Conor Coady has opened up on a [chastening moment](https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/jordan-henderson-cheat-conor-coady-23125064) to forget at Anfield earlier this season.

The visiting captain, a boyhood [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/05/06/virals-liverpool-eye-lorenzo-pellegrini-as-gini-wijnaldum-replacement/) fan, had already endured a [gut-wrenching moment](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-wolves-penalty-conor-coady-19410757) earlier in the match after his hesitation allowed a prowling [Mohamed Salah](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/05/05/mo-salah-champions-league/) to fire the Reds into the lead.

Following a corner and perhaps trying to make amends for his error, [Coady went down](https://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/sport/sport-opinion/dive-or-not-dive-and-cheating-var-should-catch-sue-smith-3065817) inside the penalty box having seemingly been felled in front of the empty Kop.

However, the moment was later ruled to be something of nothing as [VAR overruled](https://www.benchwarmers.ie/video-var-overturns-penalty-against-liverpool/223263/) the decision.

The 28-year-old has spoken about the forgettable incident, with Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher on the [Greatest Game podcast](https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/the-greatest-game-with-jamie-carragher/id1483757361) as cited by [The Anfield Talk](https://twitter.com/TheAnfieldTalk/status/1390281920982958080) on Twitter.

> Don’t mention that game! I got some serious stick for that! As the ball comes in, you know when you’re thinking someone is going to touch you, as I’m thinking that he \[Mane\] moved his foot dead quick. So I go down and I was hoping that the referee wouldn’t blow his whistle. The next minute, the whistle blows and I just put my head dead into the turf. So I’m thinking they’re obviously going to see it on VAR. I’m walking back and all the Liverpool players are giving me stick!

Coady was also asked about teammate and [reported](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1414894/Manchester-United-news-secret-weapon-Liverpool-40m-Pedro-Neto-transfer) Liverpool target, Pedro Neto, who the Scouser insisted was not for sale and lauded as ‘absolutely incredible’.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Not the centre-backs finest moment it’s fair to say.

The St Helens born star does deserve plenty of credit for the career forged in the top flight having [failed to make the grade](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8858827/Conor-Coady-enjoyed-meteoric-rise-leaving-Liverpool-replace-Virgil-van-Dijk.html) at Liverpool.

Remarkable praise for Neto however, who he hastened to add would not be leaving Molineux this summer, despite the [potential efforts](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/pedro-neto-backs-up-claim-19805821) from the Reds.
