# Virals: Contrasting fortunes for international Liverpool stars

There were contrasting fortunes for international Reds over the weekend as key [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/10/10/virals-ex-liverpool-trialist-andreas-schjelderup-to-break-transfer-record/) players were involved for their respective nations around the globe.

Portuguese forward Diogo Jota was [left out of the squad](https://twitter.com/selecaoportugal/status/1446896518112456709) to face Qatar in a friendly on Saturday whilst Sadio Mane was flourishing for Senegal.

Meanwhile, Scotland captain Andy Robertson provided [two assists](https://www.sofascore.com/player/andrew-robertson/262911) as Scotland came from behind to earn a crucial 3-2 victory over Israel.

However, Jota remains of huge concern to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp ahead of the [Premier League trip](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/match/2021-22/men/fixtures-and-results) to face Watford.

Earlier in the week, it was [reported](https://desporto.sapo.pt/futebol/selecao/artigos/mundial2022-portugal-realiza-ultimo-treino-antes-do-particular-com-o-qatar) that the 24-year-old was a doubt for the clash due to a muscle concern.

It remains to be seen whether Jota will be available to [face Luxembourg in a World Cup qualifier](https://www.skysports.com/football/teams/portugal/fixtures) on Tuesday (October 12).

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

With major doubts already hanging over the [availability](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-alisson-fabinho-brazil-blow-21794286) of Brazilian duo Alisson and Fabinho, Klopp will be hopeful Jota can be available moving forwards.

Both [recent absentees](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11669/12422299/liverpool-vs-man-city-trent-alexander-arnold-and-thiago-alcantara-to-miss-sundays-premier-league-game) Trent Alexander-Arnold and Thiago are expected to return to action shortly after the ongoing domestic hiatus, although the Watford clash could come too soon.

Goals and assists for [Mane and Robertson](https://theathletic.com/2771088/2021/08/19/mo-salah-liverpool-contract-negotiations/) will be a huge, much needed, boost to the pair’s confidence ahead of a crucial stage of the season.
