# Virals: EPL duo ‘near the front of the queue’ to sign Joe Gomez

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2022/02/22/pundit-claims-epl-star-bukayo-saka-is-the-perfect-liverpool-player/) central defender [Joe Gomez](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2022/01/25/virals-liverpool-defender-joe-gomez-will-not-leave-in-january/) is reportedly on the radar of at least two Premier League clubs.

Newcastle United and Aston Villa are believed to be keen on the 24-year-old following a [drastic reduction in game](https://www.sofascore.com/player/joe-gomez/318927) time this season.

Gomez made a [first start in 15 months](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/joe-gomez-makes-playing-time-23159833) against Norwich City on the weekend – albeit out of position at right-back.

According to a report from [The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/3140743/2022/02/22/whats-next-for-joe-gomez/), as cited on [Twitter](https://twitter.com/TheAthleticUK/status/1496047359410724866), the Englishman would be a sought after commodity this summer.

The report claims that Newcastle and Aston Villa – managed by Steven Gerrard – would be ‘near the front of the queue’ to sign the [11-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/joe-gomez/nationalmannschaft/spieler/256178/verein_id/3299) England man.

So far this season Gomez has played just [530 minutes](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/joe-gomez/leistungsdaten/spieler/256178) across all competitions for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Valued at £22.5million and under contract until 2024 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/joe-gomez/marktwertverlauf/spieler/256178)), unsurprisingly the Reds are reluctant to sell a player of such previous importance.

The one-time favoured partner to Virgil van Dijk, injuries, an upturn in fortunes for Joel Matip and the [signing of Ibrahima Konate](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11669/12316877/ibrahima-konate-liverpool-sign-centre-back-from-rb-leipzig) have seen the ace fall down the pecking order.

However, already an experienced operator of [134 Liverpool outings](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/joe-gomez/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/256178), the club will feel there is more than enough water under the bride to justify keeping faith in Gomez.
