# Virals: Ex-Dortmund man can ‘imagine’ Erling Haaland at Liverpool

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/08/17/virals-liverpool-record-holder-ben-woodburn-wanted-by-hearts/) have been backed to win the race to sign Borussia Dortmund superstar [Erling Haaland](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/07/27/virals-erling-haaland-opens-up-on-future-amidst-150million-move-reports/) next season.

The 21-year-old Norwegian looks [set to remain in Germany](https://www.football.london/chelsea-fc/transfer-news/dortmund-chelsea-erling-haaland-transfer-21176001) this season despite strong interest from a host of Europe’s elite clubs.

This could spark a war next summer when the Norwegian striker has a [reported £64million release clause](https://bulinews.com/news/9605/report-erling-haalands-release-clause-could-rise-90-million) written into a contract – although that could rise to £77million should certain clauses be met.

Speaking to German outlet [Sport 1](https://www.sport1.de/news/fussball/bundesliga/2021/08/supercup-bvb-fc-bayern-michael-rummenigge-uber-haaland-nagelsmann-rose), as cited by [LFC Transfer Room](https://twitter.com/LFCTransferRoom/status/1427596115634016277) on Twitter, ace of [192 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/michael-rummenigge/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/77015) in yellow and black, Michael Rummenigge, has been discussing the possible destinations.

> We’ll have to wait and see where he goes after this season. Real \[Madrid\] and Barcelona have financial problems, so I could imagine him moving to England. His father used to play there too. I could well imagine Liverpool for Haaland.

Born in Leeds, where father [Alf-Inge played](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alf-inge-haaland/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/107179) as well as stints with Manchester City and Nottingham Forest, there is no doubting the [12-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/erling-haaland/nationalmannschaft/spieler/418560/verein_id/3440) Norway ace has a link with England.

Last season the man [hailed](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9365253/Erling-Haaland-Thierry-Henry-praise-lethal-Borussia-Dortmund-star.html) as ‘lethal’ by Thierry Henry netted [41 goals in 41 outings](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/erling-haaland/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/418560) across all competitions.

Haaland has already made a phenomenal start to the new campaign, [scoring twice and adding three assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/erling-haaland/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/418560/plus/0/saison/2021/wettbewerb/L1/verein/16) in a 5-2 Bundesliga rout over Frankfurt.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Liverpool have previously been mooted as being [amongst the potential suitors](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-interest-erling-haaland-clear-18303199) for the prolific frontman – although the figures suggested this summer were always likely to be out of reach for the Reds.

However, with an ageing frontline in situ, potentially shelling out around £70million for the [£117million valued](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/erling-haaland/marktwertverlauf/spieler/418560) striker would be a deal to see the club in impressive hands for years to come.

Having previously described playing at Anfield as a [‘dream come true’](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-erling-braut-haaland-champions-19108029) – perhaps there is a chance that Liverpool will indeed be the chosen destination.
