# Virals: FC Basel preparing second attempt to sign Loris Karius in January

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/09/22/virals-tweet-highlights-exciting-list-of-soon-to-be-out-of-contract-stars/) goalkeeper [Loris Karius](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/08/31/liverpool-loris-karius-departure/) looks set to be the subject of renewed interest from FC Basel in January.

The 28-year-old remained with the Reds despite the club [actively looking to sell](https://www.givemesport.com/1732780-liverpool-transfer-news-jurgen-klopp-wants-to-sell-six-players-this-summer) this summer.

Swiss top-flight club Basel were [reportedly](https://theathletic.co.uk/2822637/2021/09/15/loris-karius-dogged-by-misfortune-or-his-own-worst-enemy/?redirected=1) keen on the stopper but a move failed to materialise as Karius failed to agree to personal terms.

Now, a fresh report from reliable German outlet [Bild](https://twitter.com/BILD_Sport/status/1440586559258980363), as cited by [Manuel Veth](https://twitter.com/ManuelVeth/status/1440631613210038279) on Twitter, has claimed that the main protagonists may return.

The report claims the current second-placed side in the [Swiss Super League](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/swiss-super-league/table) will make an attempt to sign Karius before the ‘keepers contract requires in 2022.

Unsurprisingly the former [German Under 21 ace](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/loris-karius/nationalmannschaft/spieler/85864/verein_id/3817) is yet to feature for Jurgen Klopp’s side this season.

Following a relatively successful spell in Turkey with Besiktas, Karius spent a [disappointing 2020/21 campaign](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/loris-karius/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/85864/plus/0/saison/2020/wettbewerb/L1/verein/89) at Union Berlin last term.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Valued at £1.8million ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/loris-karius/marktwertverlauf/spieler/85864)), Liverpool won’t be confident of recouping any money of note due to the German’s dwindling contract.

Whether or not Basel would be willing to shell out for a player [available for free](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/loris-karius/profil/spieler/85864) just months later is another matter and a mooted loan move may be more conceivable.

However, it’s become ever apparent that Karius has [no future at Anfield](https://www.goal.com/en/news/liverpool-forgotten-man-karius-uncertain-future-reds-return/ggxnp7f57djr1iorl31a34k9d) and a move at the earliest juncture would be best for all parties.

Last night Irish goalkeeper and new understudy to Alisson Becker, Caoimhín Kelleher, once again proved to be the [next in line to the throne](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/444287-caoimhin-kelleher-on-penalty-save-and-carabao-cup-ambitions) with a superb penalty save.
