# Virals: Florian Neuhaus a ‘more realistic target’ for Liverpool

Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder [Florian Neuhaus](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/18/virals-journalist-offers-update-on-florian-neuhaus-transfer/) has been billed as a ‘more realistic target’ for [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/21/after-90-jurgen-klopp-enjoys-atp-mallorca-alongside-former-target/) this summer.

The Reds are expected by many to enter the market for an additional midfielder after Gini Wijnaldum [left the club for Paris Saint-Germain](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/435817-georginio-wijnaldum-to-join-paris-saint-germain) as a free agent.

Numerous names have since been [linked](https://www.fourfourtwo.com/features/5-midfielders-liverpool-could-sign-to-replace-gini-wijnaldum) with a switch to Anfield, including Leicester City star Youri Tielemans and Brighton & Hove Albion man Yves Bissouma.

However, a fresh report from James Pearce for [The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/2652931/2021/06/20/neuhaus-replacement-wijnaldum-liverpool-premier-league/), as cited by [Anfield Effect](https://twitter.com/AnfieldEffect/status/1406872004528050178) on Twitter, has claimed Neuhaus to be the most likely arrival.

The report also states that currently, the club isn’t desperate to sign midfield reinforcements, although that may change after [Euro 2020](https://www.uefa.com/uefaeuro-2020/).

Despite contrasting [reports](https://twitter.com/altobelli13/status/1405932154815762433) emanating from Germany, the 24-year-old seemingly remains high on the list of possible Jurgen Klopp squad members for next season.

In 2020/21, the [six-times capped](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/florian-neuhaus/nationalmannschaft/spieler/278332/verein_id/3262) senior international [scored eight times and assisted eight others](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/florian-neuhaus/leistungsdaten/spieler/278332) in 45 appearances across all competitions.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Signing a midfielder has to be on the list of priorities for Klopp this summer.

Albeit caveated by the return of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to [more consistent midfield roles](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/420240-henderson-fabinho-has-responded-to-defensive-challenge-magnificently) having filled in defensively, Wijnaldum was an ever-present figure in the side.

The Dutchman’s epic [51 appearance](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/georginio-wijnaldum/leistungsdaten/spieler/49499) campaign simply can’t be filled by more game time for the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and Curtis Jones – as has been suggested.

Valued at £31.5million and under contract until 2024 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/florian-neuhaus/marktwertverlauf/spieler/278332)), whilst any move for Neuhaus may prove to be an expensive one, it’s a necessary one.
