# Virals: Gerard Pique opens up on Anfield misery

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has opened up on the anger he felt after [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/04/01/andy-hinchcliffe-lauds-outstanding-curtis-jones/)dumped the Catalan giants out of the Champions League at Anfield.

Having arrived on Merseyside intact with a[3-0](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48112154) lead from the first leg at the Camp Nou, Pique and co might’ve been excused for thinking the job was all-but complete.

Further buoyed by the Reds lineup being[without Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11945/11984568/liverpool-4-0-barcelona-stunning-reds-comeback-revisited), Barcelona had one foot in 2018/19 Madrid showpiece later that season.

However, Jurgen Klopp’s side-mounted perhaps the[most monumental comeback](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48179167)of the recent era, and Pique has told Spanish TV3 program Nexes (via [Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9426187/Gerard-Pique-reveals-throwing-things-floor-Barcelonas-defeat-Liverpool.html)and [Footy Accumulators](https://twitter.com/FootyAccums/status/1377520946072981505)) that night was the worse defeat in his [glittering career](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gerard-pique/erfolge/spieler/18944).

To make matters worse for the [World Cup winner](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gerard-pique/erfolge/spieler/18944), Liverpool went on to lift their sixth European Cup, beating Premier League rivals Tottenham [2-0](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48368443) in Madrid with goals from Salah and [Divock Origi](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/03/04/journalist-reveals-the-five-players-liverpool-want-to-let-go-this-summer/).

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Every Barcelona player to man looked [utterly shellshocked](https://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2019/may/08/barcelona-anfield-ernesto-valverde-lionel-messi)by what had transpired that night.

So badly did the evening’s events impact Sergio Busquets that the Spaniard hasn’t been able to return to [Twitter](https://twitter.com/5sergiob/status/1125507597573021696) since.
