# Virals: Gini Wijnaldum signs off from Liverpool duty on Twitter

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/05/24/virals-virgil-van-dijk-cant-wait-to-return-for-liverpool/) central midfielder [Gini Wijnaldum](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/05/21/bayern-munich-wijnaldum-talks/) has seemingly said his goodbyes ahead of a summer move as a free agent.

The Dutchman captained the side as the Reds sealed a third-place Premier League finish with a [2-0 victory](https://www.skysports.com/football/liverpool-vs-c-palace/live/429212) over Crystal Palace at Anfield.

Following his [237th](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/georginio-wijnaldum/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/49499) and likely final appearance for the club, the 30-year-old waved to the 10,000 Kopites inside the ground before strolling through a guard of honour made up of teammates and staff.

Wijnaldum told the [club’s official website](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/435257-gini-wijnaldum-i-ll-be-a-liverpool-supporter-for-life) that regardless of his next career move, he will be a ‘Liverpool supporter for life’ and hopes to return as a fan one day.

An emotional [social media post](https://twitter.com/GWijnaldum/status/1396549424390844418) followed as the [73-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/georginio-wijnaldum/nationalmannschaft/spieler/49499/verein_id/3379) star continued to all but confirm his departure from Merseyside.

Signed from Newcastle for £25million in 2016 ([BBC](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/36846756.amp)), the tireless midfielder has been a terrific servant to Jurgen Klopp’s side, coming up with the big moments on more than one occasion.

One such occasion that stands out more than any is perhaps the UEFA Champions League semi-final comeback victory against Barcelona in 2019 – the Dutch ace netting a [second-half brace](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDPqD_SSLfM) from the bench.

This season Wijnaldum was [hailed](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/klopp-names-liverpools-most-consistent-player-fabinho-reds/5s44flg750121t4f4qxi28bar#:~:text=Jurgen%20Klopp%20believes%20Gini%20Wijnaldum,few%20constants%20for%20the%20Reds.) as the ‘most consistent’ player in the squad by Klopp – perhaps owing to a remarkable [51 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/georginio-wijnaldum/leistungsdaten/spieler/49499) in a strenuous campaign.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

There’s no doubt the midfielders [class](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/33568/Show/Georginio-Wijnaldum), availability and presence will be sorely missed next term.

Clearly highly regarded by Klopp and teammates alike, Liverpool must be [immediately in the market](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/liverpool-told-leeds-star-perfect-replacement-departing-favourite#:~:text=Liverpool%20have%20been%20urged%20to,move%20on%20a%20free%20transfer.) for a replacement.

Good luck to Wijnaldum in wherever his next step takes him.
