# Virals: Harvey Elliott gesture lifts mood on social media

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/09/11/mark-lawrenson-delivers-positive-liverpool-prediction/) teenager [Harvey Elliott](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/09/06/virals-harvey-elliott-withdraws-from-england-u21-squad/) suffered a ‘serious ankle injury’ on Sunday as the Reds overcame Leeds United 3-0 at Elland Road.

The teenager [started](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-lineups-leeds-united-21548711) a third consecutive Premier League match for Jurgen Klopp’s side and was once again a shining light in the midfield.

But, moments before the starlet was set to be replaced by Jordan Henderson, Elliott was brought down and [subsequently dislocated](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/12040/12406475/harvey-elliott-liverpool-winger-suffers-dislocated-ankle-injury-against-leeds) his left ankle.

Taken to hospital after having the ankle put back into place at the ground, the teenager [applauded the supporters](https://theathletic.com/news/liverpools-harvey-elliott-to-have-surgery-after-dislocating-ankle/0R7gPaZqtHDk) on the way off.

Despite suffering a terrible blow, Elliott found time to [make a young supporters day](https://metro.co.uk/2021/09/12/liverpools-harvey-elliott-gifts-shirt-and-boot-to-fellow-hospital-patient-15247347/) after arriving at the hospital when placed in a bed next to a young footballer who had broken an arm in a match of his own.

After the match, Klopp was visibly emotional when discussing the attacking midfielder, simply [described the incident](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/harvey-elliott-jurgen-klopp-mohamed-salah-virgil-van-dijk-craig-pawson-b1918771.html) as a ‘bad injury’.

On Sunday evening a [statement](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/443139-harvey-elliott-update) from the club confirmed Elliott had been discharged from hospital and will undergo surgery early this week.

This was a sickening moment, made better only by the show of strength of character from the player.

From [applauding rival fans](https://twitter.com/jamespearcelfc/status/1437097019357728770) to the wherewithal to deliver such a gesture, Elliott truly is a top-class personality.

Kopites everywhere will be keeping everything crossed in the coming days in the hope that the [damage suffered](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/58538220) isn’t too extreme and perhaps the teen could return this season.

Elliott has already earned an impressive [6.83 Sofascore rating](https://www.sofascore.com/player/harvey-elliott/955245) this term and was establishing himself as a key component of Klopp’s plans – hopefully, we will see more of the same later in 2021/22.
