# Virals: Incredible Virgil van Dijk stat appears on social media

It’s no coincidence [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/08/23/virals-lyon-confirm-agreement-in-principle-for-xherdan-shaqiri/) have begun their 2021/22 campaign with two clean-sheet victories with [Virgil van Dijk](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/08/13/virals-virgil-van-dijk-signs-new-long-term-liverpool-contract/) back in situ.

The talismanic Dutchman was [sorely missed last season](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/liverpool-van-dijk-stats-attack-23442959) following a campaign ending injury in October.

Now back in place having endured a [gruelling rehabilitation](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/433729-gallery-virgil-van-dijk-latest-rehab-session-at-axa-training-centre) process, the 30-year-old is already showing signs of a return to peak fitness and form.

Van Dijk was a dominant force of organisation and power on Saturday as Jurgen Klopp’s side [overcame Burnley 2-0](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/58193401) at Anfield.

That victory meant the Dutchman remained undefeated in the Premier League at home as a Liverpool player, boasting an [enviable record](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/virgil-van-dijk/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/139208/verein/31) that was cited on Twitter by [Football Transfers](https://twitter.com/Transferzone00/status/1429073150231252996).

In the absence of the [38 times capped](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/virgil-van-dijk/nationalmannschaft/spieler/139208/verein_id/3379) Holland captain, the Reds suffered a major slump in form at their Anfield fortress.

Defeat at the hands of Sean Dyche’s side last season led to [six straight home losses](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/liverpool-fc-six-premier-league-home-defeats-at-anfield-b922670.html) before the rot came to an end against Aston Villa.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Valued at £48.8million and having [recently signed a contract extension](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11669/12380183/virgil-van-dijk-liverpool-defender-signs-new-contract-extension-until-2025#:~:text=Virgil%20van%20Dijk%3A%20Liverpool%20defender%20signs%20contract%20extension%20until%202025,-Virgil%20van%20Dijk&text=Virgil%20van%20Dijk%20has%20extended,of%20contract%20in%20June%202023.) until 2025, the club are well aware of the importance their ‘Rolls Royce’ defender holds.

A phenomenal leader at the back, the Dutchman offers [high-quality individual attributes](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/95408/Show/Virgil-van-Dijk) as well as the organisation and an ability to start attacks with an unrivalled passing range.

Whilst nobody can take away from the job done by[Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/434196-nat-phillips-and-rhys-williams-have-created-proper-careers-now) to steer Liverpool to a third-place finish last term, Van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Ibrahima Konate are undeniable the first-choice quartet.

As the Reds [prepare to welcome](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/match/2021-22/men/fixtures-and-results) European Champions, Chelsea, to their L4 home on Saturday night, Kopites all over the world will hope Van Dijk can at least make it 49 games unbeaten.
