# Virals: Interest in Liverpool outcast Xherdan Shaqiri expected to ‘ramp up’

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/07/26/virals-liverpool-target-dusan-vlahovic-nets-seven-in-friendly-rout/) winger [Xherdan Shaqiri](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/07/14/fabrizio-romano-100-convinced-liverpool-need-to-sell-squad-players/) is expected to be subject of enhanced interest this week as the Reds look to reshape the squad at Anfield.

The 29-year-old could be the [next out of the exit door](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/57887122) on Merseyside after Marko Grjuic, Taiwo Awoniyi and Harry Wilson left last week.

Jurgen Klopp is hoping to bolster the [options at his disposal](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/team/first-team) and the Swiss ace is thought to be next on the agenda.

That’s according to a report from [The Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/jurgen-klopp-stopped-making-any-24614473) claiming that Shaqiri is now ‘surplus to requirements’ and the club are ‘actively looking to sell’ the [96-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/xherdan-shaqiri/nationalmannschaft/spieler/86792/verein_id/3384) man.

Reliable journalist Neil Jones has added to the speculation in a report for [Goal](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/napoli-lazio-target-liverpool-shaqiri/1im5jm5gehfwa1cpm5gzfrjrlv) as cited on [Twitter](https://twitter.com/neiljonesgoal/status/1419575686541500417) claiming Sevilla, Villarreal, Lazio and Napoli are all keen on the Liverpool ace.

The latest report claims the Reds will look to land around £15million for Shaqiri – a profit on the £13million spent in prizing the winger from Stoke City in 2018 ([BBC](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44818207)).

Despite enjoying a clean bill of health last term, the star once [hailed](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-team-news-arsenal-shaqiri-19023441) as ‘superb’ by Pep Lijnders, only managed [22 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/xherdan-shaqiri/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/86792) across all competitions.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Allowing the likes of Shaqiri to leave on a permanent basis this summer is [integral to boosting the budget](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/liverpool-sell-11-players-millions-20264292) available to Klopp.

At 29 and having endured a [difficult 2020/21](https://www.sofascore.com/player/xherdan-shaqiri/65953) domestic campaign, making any profit on the transfer expenditure would be excellent business from a financial standpoint.

Amidst all the uncertainty, the expereinced Switzerland international has told [Il Corriere dello Sport](https://www.corrieredellosport.it/news/calcio/calcio-mercato/2021/07/26-83883764/shaqiri_lazio_e_sarri_mi_intrigano_tornerei_in_italia) he is ‘ready for a new challenge’ this summer.

With Harvey Elliott [impressing during pre-season](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/438096-harvey-elliott-interview-austria-pre-season-training-camp) and incomings expected, a move away is certainly best for all parties.
