# Virals: Jake Cain ‘set to leave’ for Newport County loan

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/08/31/virals-liverpool-striker-roberto-firmino-out-for-at-least-two-weeks/) youngster [Jake Cain](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/07/17/jack-cain-signs-a-new-contract-at-liverpool/) has ‘sealed’ a season long loan move to Newport County.

The 19-year-old [academy midfielder](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/team/academy/player/jake-cain) has left Anfield and will head to League Two side for at least the first six months of the 2021/22 season.

Cain could spend the entire campaign at the [Welsh club](https://www.newport-county.co.uk/matches/results/), albeit there is a suggestion that the Reds will include a recall clause in any deal.

Initially reported by [The Athletic this morning](https://theathletic.com/live-blogs/transfer-news-live-deadline-day-latest-ronaldo-mbappe-camavinga/X47s1pEboZT1), the move has since been confirmed by [Liverpool](https://twitter.com/LivEchoLFC/status/1432638480589508608) on Twitter.

Born in Wigan, Cain is a [product of the famed academy](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jake-cain/profil/spieler/565420) on Merseyside and currently [features prominently](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/everton-fc-u23_liverpool-fc-u23/index/spielbericht/3627210) for Barry Lewtas’ Under 23 side.

Overall the teenager has played [77 times](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jake-cain/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/565420) at different youth levels for the club and scored 18 goals and registered 25 assists as well as making a [senior debut in the FA Cup third-round replay](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jake-cain/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/565420/plus/0/saison/2019/wettbewerb/FAC/verein/31) against Shrewsbury Town in 2020.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Still just a fledgeling midfielder, there can be no deeper end to be thrown into than at a [mid-table fourth-tier club](https://www.efl.com/clubs-and-competitions/sky-bet-league-two/league-table/) to earn some stripes.

Cain, described as a ‘set piece king’ clearly possesses the [technical ability](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/the-scout-set-piece-king-jake-cain-save-liverpool-fortune) to thrive at the level, but will soon discover whether or not he has the physicality to cope in the division.

This could be another [Liverpool youngster to keep an eye on](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-liverpool/leihspieler/verein/31) this season.
