# Virals: James Pearce calls Liverpool move for John McGinn ‘unrealistic’

As the [European Championships](https://www.uefa.com/uefaeuro-2020/standings/) head towards the knockout stages, the summer transfer window continues to throw up various potential deals.

One man [linked](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/liverpool-emulate-transfer-masterclass-surprise-villa-move-mcginn) with [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/23/virals-liverpool-retain-interest-in-35million-rated-sander-berge/) and recently eliminated from the tournament is Aston Villa and Scotland midfielder [John McGinn](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/21/liverpool-john-mcginn-interest/).

The Reds are believed to be [‘considering’](https://www.edinburghlive.co.uk/sport/football/hibs-line-john-mcginn-windfall-20863197) the 26-year-old as a replacement for Gini Wijnaldum.

However, this morning a report from [The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/2525834/2021/06/22/klopp-impressed-mcginn-liverpool-prepare-life-wijnaldum/), as cited by [James Pearce](https://twitter.com/JamesPearceLFC/status/1407596238510374914) on Twitter, has played down the possibility of the sensational deal.

> Twitter: Klopp is an admirer of McGinn but with Villa wanting £50 million for the Scotland international any deal currently… https://t.co/VqM89WAWcf (@JamesPearceLFC)

The report describes the interest from the Anfield club as ‘very real’ but Villa’s [£45-50million demands](https://www.edinburghlive.co.uk/sport/football/aston-villa-set-john-mcginn-20880486) are likely to be a major stumbling block.

Previously [hailed](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/jurgen-klopp-heartfelt-andy-robertson-20065693) as a ‘super player’ by Jurgen Klopp, the interest has come of little surprise to many.

Capped on [36 occasions](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/john-mcginn/nationalmannschaft/spieler/193116/verein_id/3380) by Scotland, McGinn played [37 times](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/john-mcginn/leistungsdaten/spieler/193116) in the Premier League during 2020/21, scoring three and assisting six goals.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Valued at £27million and under contract at Villa Park until 2025 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/john-mcginn/marktwertverlauf/spieler/193116)), the Midlands club certainly hold all the cards regarding the Scotsman’s future.

Whilst the report states the Reds could revisit interest in McGinn following [player sales](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/liverpool-sell-11-players-millions-20264292) and should the need for an additional central midfielder arise – shelling out £50million for the ace seems unlikely.
