# Virals: James Pearce confirms Liverpool are ‘closing in’ on Luis Diaz

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2022/01/27/virals-liverpool-starlet-sepp-van-den-berg-hailed-top-class-for-loan-display/) are reportedly ‘closing in’ on a deal to bring FC Porto winger [Luis Diaz](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2022/01/28/virals-liverpool-go-for-fc-porto-star-luis-diaz-in-late-january-swoop/)to Anfield.

The 25-year-old has been perennially [linked](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/liverpool-handed-luis-diaz-transfer-boost) with a move to the Reds for some time and could finally be about to make the switch.

Having seemingly been content with a quiet January window, it would appear [interest](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12527003/luis-diaz-liverpool-consider-late-swoop-for-porto-winger-wanted-by-tottenham) from Tottenham and Manchester United has sparked the Merseyside club into life.

According to a report from [The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/news/liverpool-on-course-for-60-million-deal-for-porto-winger-luis-diaz/qzALDFoKE08b/), as cited by [James Pearce](https://twitter.com/JamesPearceLFC/status/1486962194961080322) on Twitter, Liverpool are ‘on course’ to land the Colombia international.

The report – as well as multiple journalists on social media – has claimed that the Reds are ‘winning the race’ to sign the [31-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/luis-diaz/nationalmannschaft/spieler/480692/verein_id/3816) ace.

Northern Football Correspondent for The Times, Paul Joyce, also [confirmed](https://twitter.com/_pauljoyce/status/1486958353372827650) that Liverpool are ‘looking to finalise’ a £37.5 million deal for Diaz this month.

This season the Copa America star has [scored 16 times and provided six assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/luis-diaz/leistungsdaten/spieler/480692) in 28 appearances across all competitions.

Wow. This escalated quickly.

Just as it seemed it would be yet another quiet window, suddenly the Reds shock us all again.

That represents superb value for money for a player entering the prime of what has already been an [impressive career](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/luis-diaz/erfolge/spieler/480692) to date.

Capable of operating in various attacking positions, the Colombian is by far and away a [more natural fit](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/luis-diaz/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/480692) on the left-wing, therefore providing serious competition to Sadio Mane.

Whilst the Senegalese ace has struggled for top form this season, the [numbers](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sadio-mane/leistungsdaten/spieler/200512) would suggest Mane still has a huge role in Jurgen Klopp’s side.

However, possessing an abundance of [frightening attacking attributes](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/377168/Show/Luis-D%C3%ADaz) and set to cost nigh on £50million, it’s unlikely Diaz would be coming in to act as an understudy.
