# Virals: James Pearce confirms summer exit for Loris Karius

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2022/02/02/pundit-claims-roberto-firmino-could-leave-following-exciting-signing/) goalkeeper [Loris Karius](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/09/22/virals-fc-basel-preparing-second-attempt-to-sign-loris-karius-in-january/) looks certain to leave the club at the end of the season.

The 28-year-old has been [frozen out](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/loris-karius/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/85864) on Merseyside following the infamous UEFA Champions League final against Real Madrid in Kyiv.

Signed from Bundesliga club Mainz for £4.7million in 2016 ([Guardian](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/may/24/liverpool-sign-loris-karius-mainz-goalkeeper-simon-mignolet)), Karius was brought in to replace Simon Mignolet as number one at Anfield.

According to reliable journalist James Pearce for [The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/uk/), as cited by [Anfield Edition](https://twitter.com/AnfieldEdition/status/1488566646868488198) on Twitter, the German stopper is nearing a move away.

This comes as the [one time Under 21 international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/loris-karius/nationalmannschaft/spieler/85864/verein_id/3817) looks set to be the man sacrificed as Liverpool reshape their squad to meet [Premier League rules](https://www.thefa.com/news/2020/dec/01/gbe-points-based-system-launched-011220) following the signing of Luis Diaz.

Karius has made [49 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/loris-karius/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/85864) for the Reds before spending time on loan at Besiktas and Union Berlin over the last three seasons.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Out of contract at the [end of the season](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/loris-karius/profil/spieler/85864) and way out of favour with Jurgen Klopp, it’s little surprise that this will be the final few months for the ‘keeper on Merseyside.

Whilst few will forget the [disastrous night](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44258022) in 2018, many will forgive the German for his role in the defeat.

Albeit the night that sealed Karius’ fate, the [quality of Alisson](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/liverpool/liverpool-coach-explains-why-alisson-becker-is-one-of-the-world-s-best-goalkeepers-a4397186.html) and Caoimhin Kelleher has ultimately given the German little chance of fighting back.

Regardless of what happens next in what was once such a promising career, Liverpool fans will no doubt wish the [£1.35million valued](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/loris-karius/marktwertverlauf/spieler/85864) ace all the best.
