# Virals: Jamie Carragher disagrees as Gini Wijnaldum speaks out

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/07/24/virals-harry-wilson-set-to-be-announced-as-10million-switch-nears/) legend Jamie Carragher has responded in disagreement with claims made by [Gini Wijnaldum](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/07/23/virals-liverpool-make-huge-offer-for-ac-milan-star-franck-kessie/) following the Dutchman’s departure.

The 30-year-old has broken his silence in an interview with [The Times](https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/i-gave-everything-for-liverpool-but-sometimes-fans-on-social-media-did-not-make-me-feel-loved-fxj5kkwvh?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1627147073) and claimed that some fans on social media made the ace not ‘feel loved’ during his career on Merseyside.

Since leaving the Reds and ending a five-year spell on Merseyside, Wijnaldum has [signed for Paris Saint-Germain](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11820/12189637/georginio-wijnaldum-paris-saint-germain-sign-midfielder-on-free-transfer-from-liverpool) after making a late U-turn having seemed set on a switch to Barcelona.

Sky Sports pundit and Liverpool icon of [737 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jamie-carragher/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/3597) Carragher, took to [Twitter](https://twitter.com/Carra23/status/1418992131851554820) to dispute the claim and instead gave a definitive explanation.

> Twitter: I love Gini but this is not right, social media is a circus & every club has clowns. Turn off your notifications &… https://t.co/tqQu68iL1u (@Carra23)

The 43-year-old clearly upset with Wijnaldum for feeling the need to attribute any blame to the supporters for what was a [departure over money](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/an-attempt-made-gini-wijnaldum-20850192) in his opinion.

During his time with the club, the [79-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/georginio-wijnaldum/nationalmannschaft/spieler/49499/verein_id/3379) ace made [237 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/georginio-wijnaldum/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/49499) and was involved in winning major honours as well as bagging a brace in the remarkable comeback victory over Barcelona in 2019.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Wijnaldum left the Reds on the final day of last season [relatively acrimoniously](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-gini-wijnaldum-crystal-palace-20661427) it seemed from a club perspective despite being able to agree on new terms.

However, it always felt as if the midfielder had [unfinished business](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-gini-wijnaldum-message-fans-20662025) regarding the way in which the exit came about.

Many might’ve thought the angst was to be [directed at the club](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1440191/Liverpool-transfer-news-Gini-Wijnaldum-statement-FSG-Barcelona-Premier-League-gossip) and the hierarchy in particular, not the fans on social media.

Whilst it’s impossible to legislate and condone trolls on any level, a player of [Wijnaldum’s stature](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/436313-jurgen-klopp-farewell-wijnaldum-liverpool-legend-forever) should know he was and is loved and adored by most like-minded Kopites.
