# Virals: Journalist claims Renato Sanches ‘could leave Lille for Liverpool’

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/08/09/virals-southampton-reportedly-keen-to-re-sign-alex-oxlade-chamberlain/) may be hoping to step up their efforts in the transfer window as the Premier League kicks back into gear this weekend.

Despite already completing the signing of central defender [Ibrahima Konate](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/07/13/ibrahima-konate-first-session/) from RB Leipzig, the Reds have been relatively quiet in the window thus far.

Jurgen Klopp has [welcomed back](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/van-dijk-gomez-matip-return-liverpool-squad-pre-season-camp/12m7vh7ikry0e1lvh2nr1quv0s) Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip to fitness as well as the continued emergence of Harvey Elliott following a loan spell with Blackburn Rovers.

However, replenishments are still expected at Anfield with a Gini Wijaldum replacement and [further attacking options](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11669/12315927/liverpool-the-summer-transfer-window-and-what-they-need-to-do) viewed as the priority positions.

According to French journalist [Mohamed TOUBACHE-TER](https://twitter.com/MohamedTERParis) on Twitter, as cited by [Football Transfers](https://twitter.com/Transferzone00/status/1424656279465697288), Lille ace Renato Sanches could be set to fill one of those voids.

The suggested asking price of around £33.8million falls in line with [previous mooted fees](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-transfer-news-rumours-live-21260260) and could see the Reds land the [30-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/renato-sanches/nationalmannschaft/spieler/258027/verein_id/3300) ace.

Sanches enjoyed a [superb European Championship](https://www.sofascore.com/player/renato-sanches/318967) campaign for Portugal following a Ligue 1 title-winning season.

Signing a midfield [replacement for Wijnaldum](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/why-gini-wijnaldum-leaving-liverpool-20781054) has to be classed as a priority on Merseyside.

The Dutchman played [52 times for the club](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/georginio-wijnaldum/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/49499) last term and it’s unlikely the likes of Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will be able to step up to that level of durability.

Albeit Sanches holds a relatively worrying [injury record](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/renato-sanches/verletzungen/spieler/258027), the £27million valued star ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/renato-sanches/marktwertverlauf/spieler/258027)) possesses an abundance of qualities that would bolster Klopp’s side.

The 23-year-old started the domestic campaign over the weekend by [playing 90 minutes](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/renato-sanches/leistungsdaten/spieler/258027) on the right-hand side of midfield – further underlining the Portuguese player’s ability.
