# Virals: Journalist offers update on Florian Neuhaus transfer

Journalist Florian Plettenberg has offered the latest update on [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/17/virals-blow-for-liverpool-as-lorenzo-pellegrini-to-open-contract-talks/)‘s pursuit of [Florian Neuhaus](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/12/virals-christian-falk-confirms-liverpool-interest-in-florian-neuhaus/).

The Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder is currently [away on international duty with Germany](https://theathletic.com/news/germany-euro-2020-squad-full-26-man-team-ahead-of-2021-tournament-17-06-21/NIIVZnQCURsp) at the European Championships, making the immediacy of a deal unlikely.

However, Plettenberg, the man who initially [reported](https://twitter.com/Plettigoal/status/1403313562332897285?s=20) the Reds’ admiration, has confirmed on [Twitter](https://twitter.com/Plettigoal/status/1405584978080153603) that the interest remains from both parties in making the transfer a reality.

According to another reputable journalist, Christian Falk, the 24-year-old is [believed to be keen](https://player.podigee-cdn.net/podcast-player/podigee-podcast-player.html?configuration=https://bayerninsider.podigee.io/11-neue-episode/embed?context=external&token=rlooUa88we7M9-AxZjBlLg&amp=false) on making the switch to Anfield this summer.

Due to the [expiration of a release clause](https://www.caughtoffside.com/2021/06/12/release-clause-expires-for-liverpool-target-seen-as-replacement-for-key-star/) in Neuhaus’ contract, Liverpool and Monchengladbach would have to agree on a fee before the player and club could move forwards.

Described as [having ‘everything’](https://pressfrom.info/au/news/entertainment/-300727-rose-praises-neuhaus-has-everything-to-survive-in-the-shark-tank.html) by manager Marco Rose, the [six-times](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/florian-neuhaus/nationalmannschaft/spieler/278332/verein_id/3262) capped German, [scored eight and assisted eight other goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/florian-neuhaus/leistungsdaten/spieler/278332) in 45 appearances in 2020/21.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Signing a central option to replace the significant void [left by Gini Wijnaldum](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/57400206) is a crucial element of the Liverpool transfer window.

Given the [numerous candidates linked](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-replace-wijnaldum-psg-deal-20680866) with the role, any decision won’t be an impromptu one as Michael Edwards and Klopp weigh up their options.

Albeit positionally a replacement, Neuhaus certainly performs a different role to Wijnaldum at club level, given [greater freedom](https://totalfootballanalysis.com/competitions/bundesliga/florian-neuhaus-201920-scout-report-tactical-analysis-tactics) to venture into attacking areas – perhaps a nod towards a change in tact from Klopp.

Valued at £31.5million and under contract until 2024 at Borussia Park ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/florian-neuhaus/marktwertverlauf/spieler/278332)), any deal could cost in the region of £40million.
