# Virals: Jurgen Klopp makes ‘direct request’ for Nice star Amine Gouiri

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/09/13/virals-divock-origi-spotted-as-liverpool-fans-mock-transfer-strategy/) manager [Jurgen Klopp](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/09/10/jurgen-klopp-bemused-by-trent-alexander-arnold-midfield-outcry/) is understood to have made a ‘direct request’ to sign OGC Nice forward Amine Gouiri.

The Reds were quiet throughout the summer transfer window despite [numerous links](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/every-player-liverpool-transfer-rumours-21433837) to additional squad options.

That could all change as soon as January however when [AFCON](https://www.skysports.com/africa-cup-of-nations-fixtures) comes into view and Klopp has had time to assess the players at his disposal.

According to a report from Spanish outlet [Fichajes.net](https://www.fichajes.net/noticias/fichajes-liverpool-delantero-pedido-klopp-20210912.html) (via [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/jurgen-klopp-made-direct-request-wants-liverpool-board-sign-player/)) and as cited by [Anfield Effect](https://twitter.com/AnfieldEffect/status/1437376361941848069) on Twitter, the German manager has already identified one candidate to strengthen the ranks.

The report states that Klopp ‘seems to be very interested’ in the 21-year-old [France Under 21 international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/amine-gouiri/nationalmannschaft/spieler/418659/verein_id/9323) with a view to replacing Roberto Firmino.

A product of the youth system at Lyon, Gouiri joined Nice in a deal worth £6.3million in 2020 ([GFFN](https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2020/official-ogc-nice-sign-amine-gouiri-from-lyon-for-e7m/)).

Last season, the ace scored [12 goals and provided seven assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/amine-gouiri/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/418659/plus/0/saison/2020/wettbewerb/FR1/verein/417) in 34 Ligue 1 outings before starting this campaign with [four strikes](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/amine-gouiri/leistungsdaten/spieler/418659) in the opening four matches.

Valued at £27million and under contract until 2024 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/amine-gouiri/marktwertverlauf/spieler/418659)), the report fails to mention any possible fee for the Frenchman.

Capable of [operating from the](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/amine-gouiri/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/418659)left wing, Gouiri looks to have all the potential to enjoy a bright future at the top level.

Perhaps the most appealing facet to the starlet’s game will be the similarities to Firmino’s style – boasting strong link-up, hold up and defensive contribution [attributes](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/348654/Show/Amine-Gouiri) from an attacking position.
