# Virals: Kostas Tsimikas reportedly set to remain a Liverpool player

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/08/03/virals-liverpool-outcast-divock-origi-attracts-interest-from-two-clubs/) full-back [Kostas Tsimikas](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/07/29/virals-liverpool-reject-napoli-loan-approach-for-kostas-tsimikas/) is reportedly set to remain at Anfield beyond the summer transfer window.

The Greek international ace had [attracted interest from Napoli](https://www.transfermarketweb.com/serie-a/serie-a-napoli-asked-for-the-loan-of-kostas-tsimikas-216729) in recent weeks having failed to have the desired impact on Merseyside during a disrupted debut season.

Signed from Olympiacos to offer much-needed cover and respite for Andy Robertson, the 25-year-old only featured [seven times](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/konstantinos-tsimikas/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/338070) for the Reds during 2020/21.

However, according to a report from [Il Mattino](https://www.ilmattino.it/sport/sscnapoli/il_napoli_chiede_tsimikas_al_liverpool_no_reds_al_trasferimento-6118157.html), as cited by [Sport Witness](https://twitter.com/Sport_Witness/status/1422539038918070294) on Twitter, the left-back will be given another opportunity to prove his worth at Liverpool next season.

The report claims that multiple clubs have ‘knocked on the Reds door’ for the [nine-times capped](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/konstantinos-tsimikas/nationalmannschaft/spieler/338070/verein_id/3378) defender in recent weeks, all to no avail.

Signed for £11.75million last August ([Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11669/12046303/liverpool-sign-kostas-tsimikas-from-olympiakos-for-11-75m)), Tsimikas had provided [12 assists in 86 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/konstantinos-tsimikas/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/338070) prior to arriving at Liverpool.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Whilst the Reds need funds in order to [make sufficient improvements](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/no-saul-chiesa-liverpool-ignore-midfield-forward-signings/qtb6rmtys4ezsfc6apdilwu) elsewhere in the squad, allowing important backup options to leave would only lead to further required additions.

Albeit the Reds are seemingly [willing to cash in](https://twitter.com/jamespearcelfc/status/1406957117685256194?lang=en-gb) on right-back understudy Neco Williams, the club feels youngster Conor Bradley and the versatile Joe Gomez can cover for Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Without similarly [sufficient cover](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/team/first-team) on the left-hand side of the defence, retaining Tsimikas is a no-brainer.

Having struggled with [fitness and illness throughout](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/konstantinos-tsimikas/verletzungen/spieler/338070) last season, Tsimikas will be vying to push Robertson this time around and at least get a healthy run in domestic cup competitions.
