# Virals: Lazio ‘reignite’ interest in Liverpool winger Xherdan Shaqiri

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/08/04/virals-journalist-names-trio-of-clubs-interested-in-ben-davies/) winger [Xherdan Shaqiri](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/07/28/virals-liverpool-hand-xherdan-shaqiri-permission-to-leave-this-summer/) is reportedly under consideration at SS Lazio for a summer transfer.

The 29-year-old recently [spoke of a desire](https://football-italia.net/shaqiri-honoured-by-lazio-interest-sarris-style-intrigues-me/) to play regular first-team football and shown a particular admiration towards joining Maurizio Sarri’s side.

Currently away as part of the [Reds’ squad preparing](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/439557-inside-training-rondos-and-more-in-reds-first-evian-workout) for the 2021/22 campaign, Shaqiri could be set to follow Harry Wilson, Marko Grujic and Taiwo Awoniyi out of Anfield.

According to Italian newspaper [Corriere dello Sport](https://www.corrieredellosport.it/) (via [LazioNews24](https://www.lazionews24.com/calciomercato-lazio-shaqiri-attacco-liverpool/)), as cited by [Jerry Mancini](https://twitter.com/jmancini8) on Twitter, the Biancocelesti are keen on the Swiss ace.

Signed from Stoke City for £13million ([BBC](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44818207)), Shaqiri has struggled for consistency on Merseyside – scoring [eight goals and assisting nine others](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/xherdan-shaqiri/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/86792) in 63 appearances.

Last season the [96-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/xherdan-shaqiri/nationalmannschaft/spieler/86792/verein_id/3384) international veteran contributed [four assists and one goal](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/xherdan-shaqiri/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/86792) in 22 outings across all competitions.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Valued at £10.8million and under contract until 2023 at Anfield ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/xherdan-shaqiri/marktwertverlauf/spieler/86792)), Liverpool should be cashing in on the diminutive winger this summer.

As the club look to raise funds for Jurgen Klopp’s own targets, selling Shaqiri will likely offer a healthy boost to the budget and frankly, the versatile Swiss ace’s [influence has been on the wane](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/xherdan-shaqiri/leistungsdaten/spieler/86792) for some time.

Shaqiri himself suggested [Liverpool would be open to a sale](https://www.eurosport.co.uk/football/premier-league/2020-2021/they-will-not-stop-me-xherdan-shaqiri-confirms-desire-to-secure-transfer-away-from-liverpool-this-su_sto8441814/story.shtml) and it could now just be a case of receiving the right offer.

A fresh start off the back of an [impressive Euro 2020 campaign](https://www.sofascore.com/player/xherdan-shaqiri/65953) looks to be the best option for all parties.
