# Virals: Lille star Jonathan David ‘courted by Liverpool’

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/12/08/virals-liverpool-have-strong-interest-in-swiss-star-denis-zakaria/) are believed to have ‘courted’ highly-rated Lille striker [Jonathan David](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/12/01/virals-liverpool-in-contention-to-sign-lille-star-jonathan-david/) ahead of a possible move in the future.

The Reds were [linked](https://twitter.com/LFCTransferRoom/status/1466411182936440835) with the 21-year-old in the summer before opting not to move for the Canadian starlet.

> 🇫🇷 𝗙𝗥𝗔𝗡𝗖𝗘: Many clubs have stepped up their interest in Lille’s Jonathan David, specially Liverpool who have been watching him for a while. David was very high on the list of [#LFC](https://twitter.com/hashtag/LFC?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) summer targets, but the Reds decided not to make an approach at the time.

However, French outlet [L’Equipe,](https://www.lequipe.fr/) as cited by [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/player-courted-by-liverpool-has-taken-next-step-reds-told-offer-of-at-least-e55m-for-transfer/), have now claimed that the Anfield club remain attentive to the forward’s situation.

So strong is the interest, a report elsewhere from [Jeunes Footeux](https://www.jeunesfooteux.com/LOSC-55M--Olivier-Letang-sort-les-barbeles-du-cote-de-Lille-OSC-_a50538.html) this week has claimed that the Ligue 1 have placed a €55million (£47.1million) price tag on David.

So far this season the youngster – described as a [‘wonderful player’](https://www.news24.com/sport/soccer/international/jonathan-david-fires-lille-level-with-leaders-psg-20210124) by Jean-Louis Gasset – has scored [14 times](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jonathan-david/leistungsdaten/spieler/533738) in 24 appearances across all competitions.

Valued at £31.5million and under contract until 2025 in France ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jonathan-david/marktwertverlauf/spieler/533738)), the mooted fee would represent impressive value for money.

Already capped on [24 occasions](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jonathan-david/nationalmannschaft/spieler/533738/verein_id/3510) at the senior level by Canada, the former KAA Gent ace is a powerful frontman with [expert finishing](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/383855/Show/Jonathan-David) ability.

Still very much learning on the job, another season in the French top-flight will see [further development](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jonathan-david/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/533738) and perhaps enough to prompt Jurgen Klopp into action for a Roberto Firmino successor.
