# Virals: Liverpool ace Naby Keita preparing for ‘make or break’ season

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/07/29/virals-liverpool-reject-napoli-loan-approach-for-kostas-tsimikas/) midfielder [Naby Keita](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/07/24/virals-liverpool-enigma-naby-keita-dazzles-in-friendly-victory/) is preparing for a ‘make or break’ campaign in 2021/22 according to a report from [The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/2733045/2021/07/28/which-are-the-players-at-each-premier-league-with-a-second-or-third-or-fourth-chance/).

The 26-year-old has failed to live up to a supreme billing following a £48million switch from RB Leipzig in 2018 ([BBC](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/41075272)).

As Reds’ boss ramps up the squad during pre-season in Austria, Keita has [flourished during friendlies](https://www.givemesport.com/1726913-liverpool-naby-keita-dropped-a-masterclass-in-10-win-vs-mainz-in-preseason) thus far.

The article, as cited by [Anfield Watch](https://twitter.com/AnfieldWatch/status/1420270010526806017) on Twitter, claims a combination of a ‘lack of suitable bids’, [Gini Wijnaldum’s departure](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11820/12189637/georginio-wijnaldum-paris-saint-germain-sign-midfielder-on-free-transfer-from-liverpool) and the lack of transfer funds available means the Guinean international will be given a stay of execution at Anfield.

The report suggests there is ‘no more excuses’ for Keita and cites Klopp’s [previous patience](https://www.goal.com/en/news/klopp-making-keita-worse-liverpool-progress-2020-21/6s0znuz5ltwd1w2zxjy4sw6fl) with the enigmatic midfielder.

Last season the [38-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/naby-keita/nationalmannschaft/spieler/302215/verein_id/3856) Guinea captain missed [23 games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/naby-keita/verletzungen/spieler/302215) through either illness or injury – rather summing up the ace’s time on Merseyside.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

When fit there are few detractors that would suggest Liverpool don’t have a [talented player](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/243510/Show/Naby-Keita) on their hands in Keita.

Previously [hailed](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/403684-naby-keita-world-class-virgil-van-dijk) as ‘world class’ by Virgil van Dijk, the flamboyant box to box star has clearly impressed teammates in training.

Unfortunately, that form, nor the [form that earned the move](https://www.bundesliga.com/en/news/Bundesliga/naby-keita-rb-leipzig-s-liverpool-future-african-player-of-the-year-457999.jsp) from the Bundesliga has translated into performances for the Reds.

Under contract until 2023 at Anfield ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/naby-keita/profil/spieler/302215)), this upcoming campaign truly is the last chance saloon for the [£28.8million valued](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/naby-keita/marktwertverlauf/spieler/302215) man to forge a career at the club.
