# Virals: Liverpool are ‘front of the queue’ for Manchester City starlet

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/12/06/virals-liverpool-interested-in-real-madrid-midfielder-toni-kroos/) are reportedly at the ‘front of the queue for Manchester City goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu.

The 19-year-old is currently on [loan at League One side Portsmouth](https://www.sofascore.com/player/bazunu-gavin/936719) and is seemingly attracting plenty of interest.

But the Reds are believed to be leading the chase for the teenage stopper who made himself a [national hero](https://www.hampshirelive.news/sport/football/gavin-bazunu-cristiano-ronaldo-penalty-5860858) when saving a Cristiano Ronaldo penalty recently.

That’s according to a report from the [Sunday Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/), as cited by [LFC Transfer Room](https://twitter.com/LFCTransferRoom) in Twitter.

The report claims that the Anfield club are keen on signing the [seven-times capped](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gavin-bazunu/nationalmannschaft/spieler/585550/verein_id/3509) Republic of Ireland starlet.

So far this season Bazunu has [conceded 24 times in 19 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gavin-bazunu/leistungsdaten/spieler/585550) across all competitions for the South Coast club.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Valued at £540,000 and under contract in Manchester until 2024 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gavin-bazunu/marktwertverlauf/spieler/585550)), prizing the Irishman out of the Etihad would be a difficult venture.

Countryman and another young goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher has [impressed when called upon](https://www.sofascore.com/player/caoimhin-kelleher/827362) by Jurgen Klopp and at present appears to be the man destined to follow Alisson as Liverpool number one.

Brazilian teenager Marcelo Pitaluga was also a [recent acquisition](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/411680-liverpool-fc-complete-signing-of-marcelo-pitaluga) followed closely by a new goalkeeping coach and legendary compatriot Cláudio Taffarel.

All of this means that despite the lure of snatching a talented youngster from [major rivals](https://www.premierleague.com/tables), Liverpool will surely not be pursuing a move for Bazunu.
