# Virals: Liverpool are ‘keeping tabs’ on Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/10/27/virals-liverpool-have-expressed-interest-in-karim-adeyemi/) are reportedly ‘keeping tabs’ on the situation surrounding Chelsea central defender [Antonio Rudiger](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2019/09/18/rudiger-may-be-fit-to-face-liverpool-a-big-boost-for-the-reds-opponents/).

The 28-year-old is set to enter the [final eight months of a contract](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/antonio-rudiger/profil/spieler/86202) at Stamford Bridge and a renewal is yet to be agreed upon.

Rudiger has been in superb form this season for the Blues and is believed to be [demanding a wage increase](https://www.eurosport.co.uk/football/transfers/2020-2021/transfer-notebook-chelsea-monitoring-raphael-varane-antonio-rudiger-contract-delay-could-be-costly_sto8395280/story.shtml) to stay in London.

According to a report from [Eurosport](https://www.eurosport.co.uk/football/transfers/2021-2022/antonio-conte-prepares-blueprint-for-manchester-united-to-win-trophies-this-season-transfer-notebook_sto8602957/story.shtml), as cited by [LFC Transfer Room](https://twitter.com/LFCTransferRoom) on Twitter, the Reds are being ‘kept in the loop’ regarding the German.

The report claims that the [48-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/antonio-rudiger/nationalmannschaft/spieler/86202/verein_id/3262) ace is ‘most likely to leave Chelsea’ at the end of the season as European clubs wait in the wings.

So far this term Rudiger, who was described as an [‘absolute leader’](https://www.bild.de/sport/fussball/fussball-international/thomas-tuchel-bei-bild-im-tv-wenn-antonio-ruediger-zum-fc-bayern-wechselt-dann-78045062.bild.html) by Thomas Tuchel, has earned an impressive [7.14 average Sofascore rating](https://www.sofascore.com/player/antonio-rudiger/142622) from eight Premier League outings.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Whilst this report should come with plenty of caveats given the likelihood of Jurgen Klopp pursuing [another experienced centre-back](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/team/first-team), there are certainly upsides to the possibility.

Signing a player of [Rudiger’s pedigree](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/antonio-rudiger/erfolge/spieler/86202) for nothing is an opportunity that cannot be ignored and any high wage demands would be supplemented by not paying a transfer fee for the German.

Klopp has already [signed Joel Matip on a free](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/feb/15/joel-matip-liverpool-schalke-transfer-signing) previously and could repeat the trick with the German powerhouse.

Valued at £31.5million ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/antonio-rudiger/marktwertverlauf/spieler/86202)), Liverpool would be wise to remain attentive to the situation.
