# Virals: Liverpool ‘battling’ to sign Lazio star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/10/18/virals-liverpool-reportedly-leading-the-race-to-sign-noa-lang/) are reportedly ‘battling’ for the capture of Lazio midfielder [Sergej Milinkovic-Savic](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/07/08/virals-liverpool-in-contact-with-lazio-over-sergej-milinkovic-savic/).

The 26-year-old is a [long-standing target](https://www.givemesport.com/1718095-liverpool-transfer-news-jurgen-klopps-side-make-calls-about-858m-star) for the Reds and it would appear that the interest hasn’t evaporated.

Signed from KRC Genk in 2015, the Serbian international has been a [star performer](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sergej-milinkovi%C4%87-savi%C4%87/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/266302) in Serie A for a number of years.

According to a report from [Fichajes](https://www.fichajes.net/noticias/grandes-europa-pelan-sergej-milinkovic-savic-20211017.html), as cited by [Total Football Center](https://twitter.com/totalfc_) on Twitter, Liverpool and Juventus are set to go head to head for the central-midfielder.

The report states that the [26-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sergej-milinkovi%C4%87-savi%C4%87/nationalmannschaft/spieler/266302/verein_id/3438) ace is an ‘interesting option’ for Jurgen Klopp’s side as the German seeks a long-term replacement for Gini Wijnaldum.

This season, the man described as the [‘complete midfielder’](https://twitter.com/SkySportsNews/status/1149264977980563456?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1149264977980563456%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fstrettynews.com%2F2019%2F07%2F11%2Fcomplete-midfielder-pundit-heaps-praise-on-lazio-star-as-man-utd-prepare-72m-offer%2F) by Anton Toloui, has [scored three times and registered two assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sergej-milinkovi%C4%87-savi%C4%87/leistungsdaten/spieler/266302) in eight league appearances.

Signing additional midfielders has to be part of the evolution in the [Anfield squad](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/team/first-team) as Klopp attempts to incrementally replace Jordan Henderson and James Milner.

Still just 26, Milinkovic-Savic has already achieved plenty in an [illustrious career](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sergej-milinkovi%C4%87-savi%C4%87/erfolge/spieler/266302) and could perhaps be ready for a new challenge outside of Italy.

Possessing an area of [attributes](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/288767/Show/Sergej-Milinkovic-Savic) that would endear Liverpool to the signing, the Serbian can also operate as either an attack-minded midfielder or as a more box-to-box player.

Valued at £63million and under contract until 2024 in Italy ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sergej-milinkovi%C4%87-savi%C4%87/marktwertverlauf/spieler/266302)), there would appear to be no option to land the star on the cheap.
