# Virals: Liverpool ‘best placed’ to sign Rennes winger Jeremy Doku

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/10/13/pundit-says-liverpool-target-adama-traore-would-be-destructive-signing/) are reportedly leading the way to sign exciting Rennes winger [Jeremy Doku](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/08/27/virals-rennes-could-be-forced-to-sell-liverpool-target-jeremy-doku/).

The Reds have been [linked](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/jeremy-doku-liverpool-visit-sign-20962106) with the 19-year-old for some time and even shown the starlet and his parents around Anfield in 2018.

Having since [made the switch](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jeremy-doku/transfers/spieler/486049) from boyhood club Anderlecht to the French top-flight, Doku has [continued to develop](https://www.sofascore.com/player/jeremy-doku/934386) at a promising rate.

This week, RTL Sport [journalist Alexandre Braeckman](https://twitter.com/ABraeckman/status/1447573132030713858) took to Twitter to discuss interest in Charles De Ketelaere before claiming that Liverpool are still keen on the teenager.

> Lui et Doku sont sans doute, à ce stade, les deux plus belles promesses du football belge. Doku est à Rennes et pourrait filer cet été (Liverpool le mieux placé à ce stade). De Ketelaere pourrait s'arracher à prix d'or. Game on. [#Mercato](https://twitter.com/hashtag/Mercato?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)

Braeckman claims that the Anfield club are ‘best placed at this stage’ before later [replying](https://twitter.com/ABraeckman/status/1447913024724082688) to a comment to state that ‘no club has made a firm offer’ for the [10-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jeremy-doku/nationalmannschaft/spieler/486049/verein_id/3382) ace.

Despite only producing [five direct goal contributions](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jeremy-doku/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/486049/plus/0/saison/2020/wettbewerb/FR1/verein/273) last season, Doku – hailed as [‘magic’](https://www.archysport.com/2021/07/magic-doku-reaps-international-praise-from-new-york-times-to-tweet-lineker-european-football-championship-2020/) – was a star performer for Belgium at the European Championships.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

In recent years under Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool have [shied away from signing ready-made stars](https://www.lfchistory.net/Transfers/ByManager/28/1) and instead opted to transform those with potential – a category the Belgian falls directly into.

Clearly still a raw talent honing a [glittering array](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/388098/Show/J%C3%A9r%C3%A9my-Doku) of skills, Doku is by no means the end product just yet.

Valued at £23.4million and under contract in France until 2025 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jeremy-doku/marktwertverlauf/spieler/486049)), next summer may be the optimum time to reignite this particular pursuit before the starlet kicks on once more.
