# Virals: Liverpool ‘best positioned’ to sign FC Porto star Luis Diaz

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/12/14/jurgen-klopp-lauds-exciting-lautaro-martinez-following-ucl-draw/) are reportedly ‘best positioned’ to sign FC Porto winger [Luis Diaz](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/12/02/virals-journalist-reveals-price-to-negotiate-for-liverpool-target-luis-diaz/) as sporting director Michael Edwards plots one last transfer swoop.

The Reds have been [heavily linked](https://twitter.com/PSierraR/status/1465877200054456330?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1465877200054456330%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Freadliverpoolfc.com%2F2021%2F12%2F02%2Fvirals-journalist-reveals-price-to-negotiate-for-liverpool-target-luis-diaz%2F) with a move for the 24-year-old in recent months and could finally make a move in 2022.

A shining light for the *Dragões* in the Group B doubleheader against Jurgen Klopp’s men, Diaz has been a [revelation](https://www.sofascore.com/player/luis-diaz/883537) for Sérgio Conceição’s side this season.

Now according to a report from [Fichajes.net](https://www.fichajes.net/noticias/luis-diaz-buena-noticia-liverpool-20211212.html), as cited by [Sport Witness](https://twitter.com/Sport_Witness/status/1470729711047303168) on Twitter, the Anfield club are the ‘most interested’ side in Diaz.

The report claims that Liverpool ‘want’ the [31-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/luis-diaz/nationalmannschaft/spieler/480692/verein_id/3816) star and could ‘take advantage’ of Porto’s financial situation having failed to qualify for the knockout phase in the Champions League.

So far this season the Columbian – described as [‘extraordinary’](https://sportwitness.co.uk/good-news-liverpool-reds-can-take-advantage-signing-edwards-planning-one-last-smart-move/) in the report – has [scored 13 times and added three assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/luis-diaz/leistungsdaten/spieler/480692) in 22 appearances across all competitions.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Valued at £22.5million and under contract in Portugal until 2024 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/luis-diaz/marktwertverlauf/spieler/480692)), Diaz could well be ‘one last smart move’ for Edwards’ tenure at Anfield.

Predominantly a left-winger, the tricky forward would [present direct competition](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/luis-diaz/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/480692) for Sadio Mane.

With the [African Cup of Nations](https://www.cafonline.com/total-africa-cup-of-nations/) set for early January, a move would be of huge benefit to the Reds in the short term.

Furthermore, as Klopp looks to the next evolution of this [squad](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/team/first-team), bringing Diaz to Merseyside would be a worthwhile starting point.
