# Virals: Liverpool ‘closely following’ Atletico Madrid star Marcos Llorente

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2022/03/09/rio-ferdinand-praises-world-class-liverpool-goalkeeper-alisson/) are reported to be ‘closely following’ Atletico Madrid midfielder [Marcos Llorente](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/12/14/liverpool-linked-with-move-for-llorente-but-it-may-be-crossed-wires/) ahead of a potential summer swoop.

The 27-year-old ace was the [thorn in Jurgen Klopp’s side](https://www.goal.com/en-ug/news/liverpool-freaked-out-against-atletico-llorente/iwakzu7zx5ug1e79opyl6pgch) as the current La Liga champions eliminated the Reds from the UEFA Champions League in 2019/20.

Now, it’s believed that the German coach wants to add the [versatile Spaniard](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/marcos-llorente/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/282411) to the Anfield ranks.

That’s according to a report from [Fichajes](https://www.fichajes.net/noticias/marcos-llorente-nuevo-objetivo-liverpool-verano-20220309.html), as cited by [TEAMtalk](https://twitter.com/TEAMtalk/status/1501536707216396288) on Twitter.

The report claims that Klopp is ‘very interested’ in the [12-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/marcos-llorente/nationalmannschaft/spieler/282411/verein_id/3375) star and the Reds ‘have him on the agenda’ for an end of season move.

So far this term Llorente – described as a [‘hugely intelligent’](https://www.coachesvoice.com/cv/marcos-llorente-atletico-madrid-liverpool-real-madrid/) footballer – has provided [three assists in 27 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/marcos-llorente/leistungsdaten/spieler/282411) across all competitions.

Valued at £54million and under contract at the Wanda Metropolitano until 2027 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/marcos-llorente/marktwertverlauf/spieler/282411)), signing the Spaniard would likely be an expensive venture.

However, the report states that Atletico may look to [cash in on a number of stars](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/atletico-madrid/kader/verein/13) this summer and Llorente could be allowed to leave.

Capable of playing in various midfield positions and at right-back, as well as possessing a range of [outstanding](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/254582/Show/Marcos-Llorente) attributes, it’s clear to see why Klopp would be interested in adding the former Real Madrid man to the ranks.

Having already [named his dog ‘Anfield’](https://www.espn.co.uk/football/atletico-madrid/story/4082310/atletico-madrids-llorente-names-dog-anfield-after-knocking-liverpool-out-of-champions-league) following those European exploits, the move could be an easy one to envisage.
