# Virals: Liverpool ‘closely monitoring’ Real Madrid superstar Karim Benzema

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/12/03/virals-jurgen-klopp-confirms-liverpool-duo-in-contention-for-return/) are reported to be ‘closely monitoring’ Real Madrid superstar Karim Benzema.

The Reds are believed to be keen on signing the 33-year-old in 2022 as Paris Saint-Germain also [become attentive](https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2508441-why-karim-benzema-is-the-forward-psg-need-to-aid-zlatan-ibrahimovic) to the possibility.

*Los Blancos* are seemingly [leading the way](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1522178/Real-Madrid-Champions-League-Kylian-Mbappe-Erling-Haaland-PSG-Borussia-Dortmund) to land Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland – perhaps triggering the departure of the Frenchman.

According to a report from Spanish outlet [El Nacional](https://www.elnacional.cat/ca/esports/karim-benzema-xec-blanc-fitxatge-liverpool-psg-dubtes-florentino-perez_677642_102.html), as cited by [https://twitter.com/DeadlineDayLive](https://twitter.com/DeadlineDayLive)[Transfer News Live](https://twitter.com/DeadlineDayLive) on Twitter, Liverpool are assessing the situation.

The report claims the Anfield club would be willing to offer the [94-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/karim-benzema/nationalmannschaft/spieler/18922/verein_id/3377) World Cup winner a ‘virtually blank’ cheque in order to head to Merseyside.

So far this season Benzema has [scored 17 times and added eight assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/karim-benzema/leistungsdaten/spieler/18922) in 19 appearances for Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

Valued at £22.5million and under contract in the Spanish capital until 2023 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/karim-benzema/marktwertverlauf/spieler/18922)), any deal for the prolific frontman would still be an expensive outlay.

Undoubtedly still an elite performer with a plethora of [top-quality](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/14296/Show/Karim-Benzema) attributes, whilst Benzema would be a supreme addition to Klopp’s ranks, this is a transfer way out of the norm for the Reds in recent years.

Liverpool are far more likely to target a lesser-known player with more room for improvement and [‘super-fast’](https://play.acast.com/s/thetransferwindow/vnid%3A%2F%2Fepisodes%2F47744575%3Fmedia_id%3D35116124) speed, a road that journalist Duncan Castles tipped the club to head down in the January transfer window.
