# Virals: Liverpool cult hero Divock Origi attracting European interest

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/05/26/virals-liverpool-willing-to-accept-offers-for-taiwo-awoniyi/) striker [Divock Origi](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/03/04/journalist-reveals-the-five-players-liverpool-want-to-let-go-this-summer/) is believed to be available for a summer transfer as Jurgen Klopp looks to reshape the Anfield squad.

The Belgian has endured a difficult campaign for the Reds – making just [17 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/divock-origi/leistungsdaten/spieler/148368) across all competitions, scoring just once in a Carabao Cup game against Lincoln City.

Despite retaining cult hero status on Merseyside, the 26-year-old’s performances have been some [way below the standard](https://www.sofascore.com/player/divock-origi/190399) required in Klopp’s side.

This dip in form has caused speculation as to whether the forward’s future may indeed lie elsewhere, especially as Liverpool [look to rebuild a team](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/how-liverpool-could-line-up-23604738) ready to challenge once again.

According to [Neil Jones](https://twitter.com/neiljonesgoal), as cited by [Watch LFC](https://twitter.com/Watch_LFC/status/1397229665245405195) on Twitter, the club are now willing to listen to offers for the Champions League final goalscorer.

This season has highlighted the need for [Klopp to have reliable backup options](https://inews.co.uk/sport/football/liverpool-injury-news-latest-list-alisson-thiago-alexander-arnold-robertson-henderson-780156) across all positions in the squad.

As things stand Origi is the understudy to Roberto Firmino as a central striker – a first choice options who [failed to score in 13 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/divock-origi/leistungsdaten/spieler/148368) across the Champions League and Premier League.

Valued at £14.4million and under contract until 2024 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/divock-origi/marktwertverlauf/spieler/148368)), the sale will be no easy feat in a summer with cash-strapped clubs across Europe.

But, truthfully Liverpool need to make a deal happen.

Origi has had more than enough opportunities to prove he can be a mainstay option for Klopp – failing on numerous occasions, memorable [Merseyside derby and semi-final moments](https://talksport.com/football/623953/liverpool-divock-origi-merseyside-derbies-forgotten-man-cult-hero/) aside.

When you compare the [impact made by Diogo Jota](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/jota-impact-liverpool-similar-salah-klopp-headache-aldridge/1ixdq112s4wu9z9kenig0uy58) since his arrival last summer, the Belgian simply hasn’t met the level.

The player himself may be on the lookout for a move having [missed out on his national squad](https://www.fourfourtwo.com/features/belgium-euro-2020-squad-the-complete-line-up-for-marchs-internationals) for the upcoming Euro 2020 tournament.
