# Virals: Liverpool defender Joe Gomez ‘will not leave’ in January

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2022/01/25/virals-liverpool-wont-sign-switzerland-ace-denis-zakaria-in-january/) central defender [Joe Gomez](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2022/01/24/virals-aston-villa-plot-another-move-for-liverpool-ace-joe-gomez/) ‘will not leave’ the club during the January transfer window according to a report.

The 24-year-old had been [linked with a move to Aston Villa](https://www.footballinsider247.com/aston-villa-tipped-to-complete-gomez-signing-after-centre-back-deal-agreed-pundit/) as Anfield legend Steven Gerrard looked to his former club for potential signings.

Having made a [stuttering return](https://www.sofascore.com/player/joe-gomez/318927) from a season-ending injury, Gomez is yet to earn a regular place back in Jurgen Klopp’s first team.

However, according to a report from [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-significant-update-on-aston-villa-bid-to-sign-gomez-after-klopp-makes-up-his-mind/), as cited on [Twitter](https://twitter.com/footyinsider247/status/1485952974044209162), the Englishman won’t be heading away from Merseyside this month.

The report claims that Klopp has ‘made up his mind’ and the [11-cap ace](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/joe-gomez/nationalmannschaft/spieler/256178/verein_id/3299) will stay put despite the interest.

This season Gomez – previously described as [‘sensational’](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/385277-jurgen-klopp-praise-for-joe-gomez) by Klopp – has made just [12 appearances across all competitions](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/joe-gomez/leistungsdaten/spieler/256178) for the Reds – completing 90 minutes on four occasions.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

This always seemed like a deal destined to fall by the wayside.

Despite the struggles to recapture his best form, Gomez remains a [highly-rated performer](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/136451/Show/Joe-Gomez) and almost certainly has a bright future as a Liverpool player.

One thing is for sure is that if the [£22.5million valued](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/joe-gomez/marktwertverlauf/spieler/256178) ace wants to be part of the England World Cup squad next winter, more game time between now and then is imperative.
