# Virals: Liverpool discover £53.8m price for Benfica ace Darwin Nunez

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2022/03/03/gabby-agbonlahor-lauds-outstanding-liverpool-forward-luis-diaz/) have reportedly discovered the fee required to sign Benfica striker [Darwin Nunez](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/09/30/virals-melissa-reddy-confirms-liverpool-scout-attendance-at-ucl-clash/).

The 22-year-old has been [linked](https://inews.co.uk/sport/football/champions-league-premier-league-transfer-targets-fixtures-jonathan-david-lautaro-martnez-1451223) with the Reds, Arsenal and West Ham in recent months and seems destined to leave Portugal in the near future.

On this occasion, it’s the Anfield club that is most heavily touted as the favourite to land the [prolific](https://www.sofascore.com/player/darwin-nunez/924871) Uruguayan.

According to a report from Portuguese newspaper [O Jogo](https://ojogo.pt/) (via [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/price-not-low-liverpool-told-transfer-will-cost-around-e65m/)) and as cited on Twitter, Liverpool will need to shell out a hefty sum in order to raid the Primeira Liga side.

The report claims that the Reds will need to pay €65million (£53.8million) in order to bring the [eight-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/darwin-nunez/nationalmannschaft/spieler/546543/verein_id/3449) Uruguay star to Merseyside.

So far this season, Nunez has [scored 25 times and provided two assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/darwin-nunez/leistungsdaten/spieler/546543) in 30 appearances across all competitions.

Valued at £28.8million and under contract until 2025 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/darwin-nunez/marktwertverlauf/spieler/546543)), signing the frontman for the mooted fee would be a superb piece of business – even at this price.

Predominantly a central striker, Nunez can also operate out wide as well as in a false nine role, making the Uruguayan the [perfect successor](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/400828/Show/Darwin-N%C3%BA%C3%B1ez) to Roberto Firmino.

Having amassed an impressive [77 direct goal](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/darwin-nunez/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/546543) contributions in just 128 career outings, Jurgen Klopp should be doing everything possible to raid Portugal once more following the capture of Luis Diaz from FC Porto.
