# Virals: Liverpool drawn against Inter Milan in UCL redraw

On a day of huge controversy surrounding the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 draw, [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/12/13/virals-ac-milan-interested-in-liverpool-striker-divock-origi/) will now face Inter Milan in February.

The Reds were originally set to face Austrian Bundesliga champions [Red Bull Salzburg](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/12/13/liverpool-to-face-red-bull-salzburg-in-ucl-round-of-16/) prior to complaints from across Europe as to the validity of the first draw.

Those complaints were [upheld by UEFA](https://twitter.com/ChampionsLeague) and as such the entire first knockout phase was redrawn.

This time Jurgen Klopp’s side were [handed a trip](https://www.bt.com/sport/watch) to Milan before hosting the second leg at Anfield a fortnight later.

At the [centre of the original controversy](https://twitter.com/goal/status/1470362245356036103), Manchester United will now face whilst Chelsea and Manchester City will take on Lille and Sporting Lisbon respectively.

Meanwhile, Salzburg faces the [equally daunting task](https://www.bt.com/sport/football/champions-league/champions-league-last-16-draw-live-stream-tv-channel) of overcoming Bayern Munich.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

The old ‘null and void’ comes into play after all.

Although a majority of Kopites would’ve been relishing the trip to Austria to take on an [attack-minded Salzburg](https://breakingthelines.com/tactical-analysis/a-masterclass-in-pressing-red-bull-salzburg/) side, most will see the requirement for a second attempt.

Instead, it’s a tricky looking trip to Milan.

Having cruised past current [Serie A leaders](https://www.skysports.com/serie-a-table) AC Milan on two occasions in the group stage, the Reds will be confident of overcoming matters in the San Siro and on Merseyside.

Both clubs have a [rich history in the competition](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/history/honours) and will be looking to go all the way and make it seven or two times European Champions in Russia next May.
