# Virals: Liverpool ‘eligible candidates’ for late Mikkel Damsgaard swoop

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/08/29/gary-neville-hails-outstanding-harvey-elliott-performance/) are once again being linked with a move for Sampdoria attacking midfielder [Mikkel Damsgaard](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/08/24/virals-liverpool-scouts-spotted-watching-mikkel-damsgaard/).

The Reds have been regularly touted as potential suitors for the Danish ace on the back of a [superb](https://www.sofascore.com/player/damsgaard-mikkel/907072) European Championships.

Despite there only being two full days remaining in the summer transfer window, [speculation continues to link Liverpool](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-transfers-kylian-mbappe-damsgaard-21392616) with a late swoop for the 21-year-old.

According to a report from [La Reppublica](https://www.repubblica.it/) (via [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/leeds-united-eligible-candidate-sign-player/)) and as cited by [SampNews24](https://twitter.com/SampNews24/status/1431542678240612358) on Twitter, Sampdoria are preparing for a ‘lunge’ from the Premier League.

The report claims that Liverpool and Leeds United are both ‘eligible candidates’ for the [eight times capped](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mikkel-damsgaard/nationalmannschaft/spieler/540941/verein_id/3436) Denmark man.

Last season, the ace once hailed as an [‘infant prodigy’](https://sosfanta.calciomercato.com/ranieri-damsgaard-e-un-enfant-prodige-vi-dico-che-lo-gestiro-cosi/) by Claudio Ranieri, Damsgaard [scored twice and registered four assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mikkel-damsgaard/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/540941) in 35 Serie A outings

Signing the versatile midfielder would resolve two issues currently held in the [Liverpool squad](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/team/first-team) for Jurgen Klopp.

Short of first-team ready options in midfield and attack following the departure of Gini Wijnaldum and Xherdan Shaqiri, Damsgaard is [equally adept](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/401168/Show/Mikkel-Damsgaard) in either role.

Valued at £18million and under contract until 2024 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mikkel-damsgaard/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/540941)), reports claim Sampdoria will set an asking price of [around £25million](https://www.sampnews24.com/calciomercato-sampdoria-pronto-affondo-liverpool-damsgaard-ultime/) for their ace.

For the price and with Klopp in need of additional options, Damsgaard could present a viable opportunity even before the [window closes](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12257542/summer-transfer-window-2021-when-does-it-open-news-dates-and-deadline-day) on Tuesday.
