# Virals: Liverpool ‘enter the race’ to sign Kalvin Phillips

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/10/28/pundit-hails-great-tyler-morton-display-against-preston-north-end/) will reportedly ‘enter the race’ to sign Leeds United midfielder [Kalvin Phillips](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/10/19/liverpool-and-tottenham-linked-with-50m-move-for-kalvin-phillips/).

The Reds have been [linked](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/jude-bellingham-transfer-latest-liverpool-21508468) elsewhere with a sensational move for Borussia Dortmund starlet Jude Bellingham.

Manchester United have been [credited with an interest](https://www.teamtalk.com/liverpool/transfer-gossip-leeds-star-prefers-liverpool-move-man-utd-pushed-aside-chelsea-kounde-de-ligt) in the 25-year-old recently

However, a report from the [Daily Star](https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/exclusive-kalvin-phillips-liverpool-leeds-25312063), as cited by [Anfield Edition](https://twitter.com/AnfieldEdition) on Twitter has claimed that the Anfield club are also ‘keeping close tabs’ on Phillips.

The report states that Leeds will demand a fee in the region of £60million for the [17 times capped](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kalvin-phillips/nationalmannschaft/spieler/351749/verein_id/3299) ace.

Furthermore, the same report suggests that the [‘Yorkshire Pirlo’](https://www.goal.com/en/news/pirlo-responds-to-yorkshire-pirlo-comparisons-with-leeds-england-/5yoz4tsotb0q1u2r2xpfds9vh) would prefer a move to Merseyside whilst the [Daily Express](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1512315/Liverpool-three-players-Leeds-United-Kalvin-Phillips-premier-league-transfer-news) claims that the Reds may offer Divock Origi, Takumi Minamino or James Milner as part of the deal.

This season Phillips, who was described as [‘excellent’](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/southgate-lavishes-kalvin-phillips-praise-names-leeds-mans-qualities) by Gareth Southgate, has earned an outstanding [Sofascore rating of 7.33](https://www.sofascore.com/player/kalvin-phillips/786028) Premier League outings.

Valued at £36million and under contract at Elland Road until 2024 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kalvin-phillips/leistungsdaten/spieler/351749)), spending the mooted £60million on the defensive midfielder would be a worthwhile expenditure.

Fellow Yorkshireman Milner is [expected to hang up his boots](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/429841-james-milner-interview-mr-professional-career-19-years) in the near future, freeing up space in the midfield department at Anfield.

One major drawback, however, would be the potential impact on any deal for Bellingham as Dortmund [reportedly](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-10135389/Jude-Bellingham-valued-101m-Borussia-Dortmund-look-fend-Liverpool-interest.html) demand a club record £101million fee for the 18-year-old.

Albeit both players have their [differing](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/270446/Show/Kalvin-Phillips) qualities, spending in excess of £150million in one fell swoop seems unlikely.
