# Virals: Liverpool ‘eyeing’ shock move for Barcelona flop Philippe Coutinho

Despite leaving the club in controversial circumstances in 2018, it seems [Philippe Coutinho](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/12/20/virals-liverpool-show-interest-in-barcelona-outcast-philippe-coutinho/) has never been far from a link back to [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2022/01/05/paul-robinson-hails-top-quality-liverpool-goalkeeper-caoimhin-kelleher/).

Following a drawn-out saga involving a back injury, the Brazilian playmaker was eventually sold for an astronomical £142million ([The Guardian](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2018/jan/06/philippe-coutinho-join-barcelona-142m-deal-liverpool)).

However, things [haven’t gone to plan](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/philippe-coutinho/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/80444) in Catalonia for the 29-year-old and the Reds have been linked with a shock reunion during the mid-season transfer window.

According to a report from [Goal](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/steve-cook/leistungsdaten/spieler/90836), as cited by [The Anfield Talk](https://twitter.com/TheAnfieldTalk) on Twitter, the Anfield club are among those considering the attacking midfielder.

The report claims that all three English clubs ‘appear interested’ in the [63-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/philippe-coutinho/nationalmannschaft/spieler/80444/verein_id/3439) Brazil star who has a ‘willingness’ to return to the Premier League.

This season Coutinho has [scored twice in 16 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/philippe-coutinho/leistungsdaten/spieler/80444) across all competitions – failing to complete 90 minutes at any stage.

Still valued at £16.2million and under contract at the Camp Nou until 2023 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/philippe-coutinho/marktwertverlauf/spieler/80444)), the fee for the Brazilian would likely be a low coast affair at this stage.

Having [missed 37 games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/philippe-coutinho/verletzungen/spieler/80444) last season through injury, any buying club would want assurances over the star’s fitness prior to making any move.

Whilst nostalgia would suggest a reunion makes sense, ultimately for the Reds, this is a deal best left alone when considering the [current quality](https://www.sofascore.com/player/philippe-coutinho/119159), fitness issues and finances involved.
