# Virals: Liverpool face competition for Lorenzo Pellegrini

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/10/virals-liverpool-target-youri-tielemans-to-make-decision-after-euro-2020/) could face major competition for the signature of reported target [Lorenzo Pellegrini](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/08/virals-liverpool-make-offer-for-roma-midfielder-lorenzo-pellegrini/) this summer.

The Reds have been widely linked to the Italian midfielder in recent days, with some [reports](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/liverpool-lodge-25-8m-bid-for-roma-midfielder-lorenzo-pellegrini) suggesting the club had met a £25.8million release clause to land the AS Roma ace.

There has been bad news for the 24-year-old this week after a [muscle injury](https://twitter.com/azzurri/status/1402916525007384576?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1402916525007384576%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Ffootball-italia.net%2Fpellegrini-injury-blow-for-italy%2F) suffered in training ruled the [17-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lorenzo-pellegrini/nationalmannschaft/spieler/286297/verein_id/3376) man out of the upcoming Euro 2020 tournament.

On the back of the fitness blow, a fresh report from [Mundo Deporitvo](https://www.mundodeportivo.com/), as cited by the [Liverpool Echo](https://twitter.com/LivEchoLFC/status/1403021195507912705) on Twitter, has claimed Barcelona and Atalanta are both keen on Pellegrini.

The report claims ‘especially Jürgen Klopp’s side’ are keen on the star, however, the [Serie A](https://www.skysports.com/serie-a-table) club has ‘first option’ on the midfielder at a reduced price.

Pellegrini enjoyed a superb 2020/21 campaign – scoring [11 goals and registering nine assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lorenzo-pellegrini/leistungsdaten/spieler/286297) in 47 appearances.

Valued at £36million and under contract until 2022 in Rome ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lorenzo-pellegrini/marktwertverlauf/spieler/286297)), signing the attack-minded midfielder would be a huge coup at the mooted release clause.

Jurgen Klopp is in need of midfield reinforcements after Gini Wijnaldum officially joined Paris Saint-Germain this week – [rejecting Barcelona](https://www.givemesport.com/1702859-georginio-wijnaldum-rejects-barcelona-and-will-sign-for-paris-saintgermain) at the final hour.

Albeit holding a rather checkered [injury record](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lorenzo-pellegrini/verletzungen/spieler/286297), Pellegrini boasts a plethora of [high-quality attributes](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/148546/Show/Lorenzo-Pellegrini) that would be hugely beneficial to the Reds, especially when attempting to break down low block sides – something Klopp’s side have struggled with previously.
