# Virals: Liverpool fans make stand against European Super League

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/04/19/otd-liverpool-squeeze-past-star-studded-barcelona/) fans are renowned for being forthcoming in their views when it comes to standing up for what they believe to be right and proper.

Today has been no exception as [Kopites headed to Anfield](https://twitter.com/TheRedmenTV/status/1384109908438622217) to take a stance against the club’s involvement in the proposed [European Super League](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/04/19/danny-murphy-disappointed-and-disgusted-by-esl-plans/).

The plans have seen [widespread condemnation](https://twitter.com/Carra23/status/1383913637358620677?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1383913637358620677%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.anfieldwatch.co.uk%2Fjamie-carragher-reacts-to-liverpool-agreeing-to-join-european-super-league%2F) as the Reds and five other Premier League sides sign up to the proposals.

In the backlash, both UEFA and the [Premier League itself](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1425034/Man-Utd-Arsenal-Liverpool-Man-City-Chelsea-Tottenham-Premier-League-European-Super-League)have threatened that the clubs will not be allowed to participate in their competitions moving forwards, a juxtaposition that would be of huge loss to Liverpool.

Furthermore, fan groups have[taken things a step further](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-super-league-spirit-shankly-20416795) by requesting their banners and flags be removed from the Kop, having previously adorned the stand in the absence of fans.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

This could merely be the [beginning of the fallout](https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/european-super-league-big-six-breakaway-plot-sparks-outrage-xks8jdxtm) in what looks set to be a murky situation at the top end of the game.

Liverpool and the other founder 11 clubs alike will have to[tread carefully](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/56794673) so as not to cut ties entirely with not only their federations but also their adoring fanbases – if they haven’t already.
