# Virals: Liverpool ‘go for’ FC Porto star Luis Diaz in late January swoop

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2022/01/27/virals-liverpool-starlet-sepp-van-den-berg-hailed-top-class-for-loan-display/) will reportedly ‘go for’ FC Porto star [Luis Diaz](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2022/01/26/virals-liverpool-target-luis-diaz-resists-epl-offer-in-favour-of-anfield/) in a late January transfer swoop.

The Reds had seemed content with a [watching brief](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-january-transfer-plans-change-22688579) during the mid-season bonanza but could now be set to kick into action in the final days.

Having seemingly [rebuffed interest from Tottenham](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/12709/12526955/luis-diaz-tottenham-deal-for-porto-star-stalled-amid-jorge-mendes-row-paper-talk) earlier in the week, the 25-year-old Colombian winger has been tipped to move to Anfield before the deadline passes.

That’s according to journalist [Pipe Sierra](https://twitter.com/PSierraR/status/1486879346778419203) on Twitter, who claims that Liverpool will act.

> 🚨 EXCL. [#Liverpool](https://twitter.com/hashtag/Liverpool?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) go for Luis Díaz with a great offer. [#Tottenham](https://twitter.com/hashtag/Tottenham?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) made a second proposal, but it wouldn’t happen because the Colombian wants his agent to be there and not Jorge Mendes in the operation

Elsewhere, Andrés Lacouture has [stated](https://twitter.com/AndresLacouture/status/1486877922204037123) that the 31-cap ace is ‘going to be’ a Red in ‘this very market’ despite previous hints at a summer move.

This season Diaz has [scored 16 times and registered six assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/luis-diaz/leistungsdaten/spieler/480692) in 28 appearances across all competitions.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Valued at £36million and under contract in Portugal until 2024 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/luis-diaz/marktwertverlauf/spieler/480692)), Liverpool could be forced to match the Colombian’s [mooted](https://theathletic.com/news/liverpools-nat-phillips-wanted-by-premier-league-and-serie-a-clubs-this-month/ddv73XX78d3v/) £67million release clause.

In truth, Sierra has been the driving force when it comes to reporting the pursuit of Diaz and last night was a hive of activity – with much of it [suggesting](https://twitter.com/PSierraR/status/1486884461052633088) that the coming hours will be pivotal.

From a playing perspective, the former Junior FC starlet would be a huge addition to [Jurgen Klopp’s squad](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/team/first-team) and will likely offer [direct competition](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/luis-diaz/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/480692) to Sadio Mane.

Already boasting an impressive trophy haul, the joint Copa America 2021 top goalscorer has [all the attributes](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/377168/Show/Luis-D%C3%ADaz) to thrive in this Liverpool side.

The biggest question will be where Mane lies for the remainder of the season should this deal happen – perhaps a move to a more rotational role reckons?
