# Virals: Liverpool hand Xherdan Shaqiri ‘permission to leave’ this summer

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/07/28/virals-liverpool-in-advanced-position-to-land-saul-niguez/) winger [Xherdan Shaqiri](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/07/26/virals-interest-in-liverpool-outcast-xherdan-shaqiri-expected-to-ramp-up/) looks to have been granted ‘permission to leave’ the club this summer.

The 29-year-old [opened up earlier this week](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1419586730496253959?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1419586730496253959%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.empireofthekop.com%2F2021%2F07%2F26%2Fliverpool-wont-stop-me-xherdan-shaqiri-names-ideal-transfer-destination-as-anfield-exit-looms%2F) about a desire to seek a ‘new challenge’ during the ongoing transfer window amidst interest from Italy and Spain in particular.

This followed an [impressive European Championship campaign](https://www.sofascore.com/player/xherdan-shaqiri/65953) for Switzerland on the back of another season predominantly as a lesser-seen squad member at Anfield.

According to Sport 1 journalist [Florian Plettenberg on Twitter](https://twitter.com/Plettigoal/status/1419975567617794057?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1419975567617794057%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.empireofthekop.com%2F2021%2F07%2F28%2Fliverpool-set-surprisingly-low-asking-price-for-xherdan-shaqiri-plettenberg%2F), the Reds will not stand in Shaqiri’s way and have even set a surprisingly low asking price.

Having previously had a [£15million price tag](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/napoli-lazio-target-liverpool-shaqiri/1im5jm5gehfwa1cpm5gzfrjrlv) placed on the [96-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/xherdan-shaqiri/nationalmannschaft/spieler/86792/verein_id/3384) Swiss star, it seems a dramatically low figure mooted by Plettenberg.

Signed from Stoke City in 2018 for £13million ([BBC](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44818207)), Shaqiri has struggled with injuries during his time on Merseyside and therefore has only managed [eight goals and nine assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/xherdan-shaqiri/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/86792) in 63 appearances.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Allowing the diminutive winger to leave comes as no surprise as Jurgen Klopp looks to shake up the [options](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/team/first-team) at his disposal.

One major part of the summer revamp is shifting [squad players off the books in order to raise funds](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/liverpool-sell-11-players-millions-20264292) for any incomings.

This makes the suggested below €10million figure even more baffling as the Reds look to [recoup every possible penny](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/liverpool-can-raise-80m-selling-20697081).

Still holding a market value of £10.8million ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/xherdan-shaqiri/marktwertverlauf/spieler/86792)) and having proven to still be a high-quality operator, Michael Edwards would be confident of extracting closer to the £15million previously touted.
